To be completely honest, I’m still in a state of shock while having to report today’s news. I say that because even though Batman appeared in season 1’s finale, I never thought we’d actually see Bruce Wayne on the series – and I’m not counting his silhouette.

As it turns out though, Iain Glen (Game of Thrones, Resident Evil film franchise) has landed one of the most coveted roles in the history of cinema, as he’s now part of an exclusive club to have played Bruce Wayne. At this time, it’s unclear if he’ll actually suit up as the Dark Knight (stuntmen did the honor during season 1), but this development actually gives Dick Grayson and Jason Todd someone to talk to, as opposed to simply referencing them.

In case you’re curious, here’s the official description for this iteration of Bruce Wayne:

“After decades of fighting crime as Batman, billionaire Bruce Wayne is just as driven to protect Gotham from evil as he was in his prime. Needing to reconcile his relationship with Dick Grayson, the duo hope to forge a new dynamic as Bruce tries to help his former sidekick and the Titans achieve success.”

Right now, I’m hoping that “new dynamic” has to do with Dick becoming Nightwing because that’s long overdue in the live action realm. But in case you’re wondering why we saw Batman but not Bruce until now, maybe that’s because Gotham was still on the air during season 1, and there’s all sorts of red tape separating various projects at Warner Bros. Considering how Fox’s prequel series will have concluded by the time Titans season 2 comes around though, that opens the door for more storytelling possibilities.
