While Marvel Studios is reluctant to officially announce any new movies beyond this year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, there are already at least half a dozen films that we know to be on the way after Avengers: Endgame. And in a recent poll conducted by Rotten Tomatoes, fans voted Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as their most anticipated of the lot.
Site users were given a choice of six post-Endgame features, and were allowed to vote for more than one. Taking the top spot is James Gunn’s upcoming threequel with a score of 63%. Perhaps it’s not the most surprising result, given the popularity of the first two movies. Moreover, you can imagine that a lot of fans are still giddy from last month’s announcement that Gunn has been reinstated as director after months of uncertainty.
Meanwhile, taking joint second with 48% each are Black Panther 2 and Far From Home. After that, comes Black Widow with 40%, while The Eternals and Shang-Chi trail behind with 14% and 11%, respectively. Well, it probably only figures that the two lowest scoring flicks are the ones based on properties that your average filmgoer knows next to nothing about.
Another movie that could’ve been included on this list is Doctor Strange 2. The sequel will see director Scott Derrickson back at the helm, and is thought to be hitting theaters in 2021, if not sooner. In the meantime, Avengers: Endgame is set to bring the saga’s current era to a close when it comes out this Friday, before Spider-Man: Far From Home officially wraps up Marvel’s Phase 3 when it hits theaters on July 2nd.
As for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, no release date has been set, but with production expected to begin in 2021, it could be a few more years before we find out if the movie is as good as fans hope.
