That’s right folks, love him or hate him – Thanos has returned to Fortnite.
To celebrate the release of Avengers: Endgame, Epic Games has once again teamed up with Marvel to bring fans of both franchises the ultimate crossover event, though don’t expect things to unfold exactly like last time. Yes, the Infinity Stone-obsessed villain has returned to Battle Island’s shores to dish out a warped sense of justice, but this time, players have the means to fight back.
One of the primary complaints of Thanos’ limited-time appearance last time around was the near-impossible feat of defeating a player wielding the Infinity Gauntlet, and Epic certainly appears to have taken that feedback on board. Not only is all the superpowered fun confined to a brand new Limited-Time Mode, but players are given the choice of fighting for either the good or bad guys.
Simply put, each match begins with all players being divided into two teams. The overarching objective for those on the Hero team is to prevent Thanos and his army from retrieving the Infinity Stones at any cost. A daunting task, yes, but help presents itself in the form of special Avengers items. These are the powerful relics teased earlier in the week and can be found, either as random drops from chests or by following a treasure map to its specified location. Wielding your newfound power, the aim of the game is to simply wipe out all opposing Chitauri as well as Thanos himself.
The catch, of course, is that every time the latter is defeated, any remaining Chitauri have the chance to become the purple-skinned scourge, so only via thoroughly defeating all enemies will victory be achieved.
On the flip side, those pledging loyalty to Thanos will be tasked with finding and retrieving all six of the precious Infinity Stones. Every player on the dark side, so to speak, will start out as a Chitauri Invader armed with a laser rifle, anti-structure grenades and a jetpack. The first Chitauri to recover an Infinity Stone will become Thanos, gaining access to all of the abilities present in last year’s event. For Thanos’ army to claim victory, all six stones must be collected. Once achieved, Heroes will no longer have access to respawns and will need to be hunted down until not one remains.
Whichever team you end up pledging allegiance to out on the Fortnite battlefield, we wish you the best of luck. Enjoy!
