Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker International Title May Reveal How Luke Returns

It's been almost three weeks now since the official title of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was first revealed, which has proven to be more than enough time for fans to form an array of predictions on just who or what the “Skywalker” in question might be.

But one subsequent revelation that seems to have sent a few theorists back to the drawing board is the movie’s Polish title, “Gwiezdne wojny: Skywalker – odrodzenie,” which can be translated as “Star Wars: Skywalker Resurrection.” The change from “Rise” to “Resurrection” (or “Revival” or “Rebirth”) has led some fans to wonder if Luke Skywalker is going to rise from the grave New Testament-style. And at the very least, the word suggests a return of sorts.

However, before people start jumping to conclusions, it’s probably worth noting that “Skywalker Resurrection” could be little more than a misleading translation of the original English title. Twitter user @nickandpolly, for instance, has argued that the use of the word “Resurrection” stems from an issue of grammar, as Lucasfilm opts for the closest translation of the word “Rise” that doesn’t mention the gender of the Skywalker.

In any case, fans still have over seven months left to speculate on the meaning of the title. So far, many have settled on the prediction that the Skywalker doing the rising is Kylo Ren, while others are more set on the notion that Rey has secretly been a Skywalker this whole time. Perhaps the most interesting theory, however, is that the film will see the meaning of the word “Skywalker” expanded, perhaps to refer to a new movement of Force-users to replace the Jedi.

As for Luke, whether or not he has a full-on resurrection lined up is still to be confirmed, but if not, then we’re at least likely to see him in Force Ghost form when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th.
