CW Boss Hopes Emily Bett Rickards Will Return For Arrow’s Final Season

After spending seven seasons on Arrow, Emily Bett Rickards finally said goodbye to her character, Felicity Smoak, in last week's finale. As was to be expected, this took quite the emotional toll on the fanbase, but nothing lasts forever. To be honest, I'm still quite shocked that she didn't stick around for the eighth and final season.

To the credit of showrunner Beth Schwartz and her writing staff, Felicity was at least granted a beautiful and fitting exit – and it managed to also help set up this fall’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event in the process. Still, I’m wondering if we haven’t seen the last of Rickards, even if her days as a series regular are behind her.

From the sound of it, The CW’s President, Mark Pedowitz, is in the same boat, saying the following at the network’s upfronts:

“Emily was terrific in the show and we believe that Beth Schwartz did a great job wrapping up the storyline last year. If Beth can find a way to bring her back that makes sense and Emily is available, we’d love to have her. Otherwise, I’m pleased with the way they said goodbye to the character.”

If Felicity weren’t to return during “Crisis on Infinite Earths” itself, then maybe she could appear in Arrow‘s series finale. After all, you’d expect for all of the major players to show up for such an episode. Then again, the final installment may actually wind up being a part of the crossover, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it all goes down.

Arrow returns with new episodes on Tuesday nights this fall on The CW. But before then, it’s encouraged that you keep watching this space because more news is certain to come to light – especially with San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner.
