Justice League Fans Have Raised Over $10K For A Snyder Cut Release

Fans are so adamant that Snyder’s footage exists that they’ve managed to raise nearly $11,000 in order to convince Warner Bros. to release the original Justice League cut at this year’s San Deigo Comic-Con.

By most accounts, Justice League wasn’t a good film. Critics bashed it, general audiences didn’t show up to see it, and fans decried it for numerous reasons. Production on the picture was troubled at best, with Avengers director Joss Whedon stepping in to retool scenes on the fly after its original director Zack Snyder stepped down for personal reasons. The result was a mess of a movie that gave audiences tonal whiplash at the speed of the Flash.

Since its lackluster debut, a very vocal subset of the internet has championed for Snyder’s original cut of the pic to be released, one that removes Whedon’s signature silly quips and restores the darker story Snyder intended to tell.

Though it’s iffy on whether such a cut exists, fans have nevertheless pushed Warner Bros. to release as much footage as they can, believing Snyder shot a lot more scenes than the production has let on. In fact, fans are so adamant that Snyder’s footage exists that they’ve managed to raise nearly $11,000 for The Project Comic-Con SDCC19 – ReleaseTheSnyderCut GoFundMe page, a crowd-sourced fundraiser that hopes to convince Warner Bros. to release the original Justice League at this year’s San Deigo Comic-Con.

Per their GoFundMe profile:

“The time has now come to make an ultimate statement to Warner Brothers and AT&T, of our firm and unyielding desire for the release of the full and complete Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League…

The various members of our movement—from all walks of life, all races and creeds, all religious and political persuasions—have partaken in such efforts as hashtag trends, reply-bombing, phone calls, and letters. And little by little, we have gained the satisfaction of knowing that, at the very least, they are aware of our cause. They know of our existence…

Well, the time has come to make a big, bold declaration to Warner Brothers, and all who can see and hear, that we are not going away—we are becoming more powerful than they can possibly imagine. We are not fading. We are growing. And as such, we need to prove it to them, by a big campaign that is impossible to ignore, shrug off, or otherwise dismiss.”

The project initially called for their supports to hand out promotional material within the Comic-Con convention center, from free #ReleaseTheSnyderCut merch to informational fliers. Now, with almost $11,000 in funding, those plans have expanded to include an airborne banner and a billboard.

The tactics some of these fans have resorted to taking, which as they’ve confessed above include letter-bombing and concentrated phone calls, are somewhat strong reactions just because one wants to see a new cut of a years-old movie. The newer measures seem much more manageable and less malicious, which could earn even more followers and yield the results they want to see. Snyder recently seemed to confirm that the cut of his film exists, but whether or not we’ll receive it is ultimately up to Warner Bros.
