All Star Wars Spinoffs Have Been Canceled, Will Be Moved To Disney Plus

While some fans might not agree, a few of us here at We Got This Covered were looking forward to what Disney had planned when it comes to Star Wars spinoffs. Sure, Solo: A Star Wars Story was a bit of a misfire - our very own Matt Donato thought that Ron Howard's take played things a little too safe - but Rogue One fared much better with fans and critics, and grossed well over $1 billion at the box office.

Unfortunately, though, it seems that the poor performance of Solo has soured Disney on the prospect of future big screen spinoffs, which is bad news for anyone who was looking forward to that oft-rumored Lando Calrissian standalone movie. Speaking exclusively to We Got This Covered, an industry insider revealed that the House of Mouse has canceled any future spinoff films (specifically, the ones that were character-focused, not the trilogies from Rian Johnson and David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) and is instead moving some of these projects to the smaller screen, where they’ll be retooled as shows and distributed on their streaming platform Disney Plus, which is set to release later this year.

In fact, while most news surrounding Disney Plus tends to focus on a handful of upcoming Marvel shows (WandaVision, Loki, etc.), it seems the company has big plans for Star Wars. Other than The Mandalorian, which is shaping up quite well, it looks like Boba Fett will also be getting his own spinoff series, too. Of course, all of these insider rumors have yet to be confirmed by Disney themselves, but there’s a good chance we’ll hear something concrete in a few months, as the studio continues to pull back the curtain on the aforementioned streaming platform.

Tell us, though, would you rather watch any Star Wars spinoffs on the big screen, or are you content with seeing them on Disney Plus? Let us know in the comments section below.
