Matt Reeves’ The Batman Will Have No Ties To Previous DCEU Films

According to Deadline, Matt Reeves' The Batman will have absolutely no ties to the DCEU films Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is slated to start filming this fall. So it makes sense that we’re starting to get a whole lot of news about the upcoming project.

Most recently, we found out that Twilight star Robert Pattinson’s 100% confirmed to don the cape and cowl. When this decision was just a rumor, it sparked a massive internet controversy, which in turn quickly (and unsurprisingly) prompted an online petition to recast the role. So stay tuned for official outrage now that Pattinson’s expected to sign the dotted line here shortly.

But something else we’ve learned is that Reeves’ film will have absolutely no ties to the DCEU atrocities of the past. According to DeadlineThe Batman “will in no way carry on the work that Ben Affleck did as the older Batman in [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice] and Justice League.”

This report’s in line with previous details we know about the movie’s plot, which will apparently be set in the ’90s, and the fact that the director’s been looking around for a younger Caped Crusader.

While there may be many people who’ll groan over the casting choice, just as many, if not more, will be pleased to hear that The Batman‘s disassociated with Zack Snyder’s movies. The two films were completely underwhelming both critically and at the box office – averaging a horrendous 33% combined on Rotten Tomatoes.

Again, we know the bare minimum in regards to additional cast as of now. So far though, the names of Vanessa Hudgens, Josh Gad, Theo Rossi and Toby Kebbell have been tossed around the project, but nothing’s confirmed. Personally, I’m excited that Ralph Fiennes has expressed interest in the film, but we’ll have to wait and see what all happens once The Batman hits theaters on June 25th, 2021.
