Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Announcement For Nintendo Switch Looks Likely

It's absolutely likely that many of the above will turn out to be the latter, but one leak currently doing the rounds has a hefty amount of weight behind it. CD Projekt Red's critically acclaimed RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it seems, is on course to see a release on Nintendo Switch, an announcement that's looking increasingly likely to occur at next week's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

E3, the games industry’s largest, most anticipated event of the year, is just around the corner and as usual, pre-show rumors have begun circulating at a dizzying pace. Rocksteady’s reported Superman title, further adventures in Capcom’s Dead Rising series, even the potential appearance of Grand Theft Auto 6 – claims and suspicions are all over the internet, making the task of separating fact from fiction a genuine nightmare.

It’s absolutely likely that many of the above will turn out to be the latter, but one leak currently doing the rounds has a hefty amount of weight behind it. CD Projekt Red’s critically acclaimed RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it seems, is on course to see a release on Nintendo Switch, an announcement that’s looking increasingly likely to occur at next week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The source of said claims? One has arrived via none other than the voice actor for Geralt of Rivia himself, Doug Cockle. In a recent Tweet, Cockle posted a mock-up image of Wild Hunt running on Nintendo Switch, accompanied with the caption, “Who else wants to see this… ;).” As if the wink didn’t already give it away, Cockle is clearly privy to information regarding the potential port, and the indirect confirmation is bolstered further by an independent source.

“Ahead of the, ahem, *totally unexpected* announce of Witcher 3 on Switch next week, here’s Digital Foundry on how it can work,” writes Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips, which more or less cements the monster-hunting hero’s future appearance on Switch.

Despite being four years old, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to be considered a modern achievement in game design. Easily one of the best current-gen titles both visually and mechanically, it remains to be seen how much of a downgrade will be required to fit its huge world on the Switch’s more modest hardware, though it shouldn’t be long before we’re privy to some official footage. Stay tuned.
