One aspect about San Diego Comic-Con that proves exciting each year is when the major studios announce and/or show new trailers for their upcoming superhero movies. Because of this, it’s no wonder that thousands of people will wait for hours in line in order to witness Hall H presentations firsthand.

Unfortunately, those same major studios are acting as though they’re video game publishers pulling out of E3. In recent years, Disney has foregone SDCC in order to hype Marvel Studios flicks at their own D23 Expo. Similarly, WB’s motion picture division will sit out this year’s pop culture extravaganza.

I’ll detail what convention attendees will miss out on momentarily, but let’s first get to the good news posted on Twitter by Variety’s Matt Donnelly:

“Toby Emmerich can ‘safely say’ WB will be back with superhero fare at ComicCon 2020.”

Well, at least things will be back to normal by next summer.

Still, this means we may not receive trailers for the next crop of DC flicks in mid-July of 2019. Granted, one or two may be officially released online, but we can’t say for certain now that we’re in unfamiliar territory. With Joker, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and Wonder Woman 1984 set to drop before SDCC 2020, that means the usual fanfare won’t surround them at this year’s show.

But if we’re to flash forward to next summer, then it’s fair to say The Batman and The Suicide Squad will both have considerable presence during the festivities. Aside from those, maybe we’ll hear something about the gestating Supergirl movie or another project that’s equally exciting.

So, even though no DC films will be represented at San Diego Comic-Con next month, keep in mind that we should find out which animated movies will roll out in 2020. Plus, there’ll also be tons of Arrowverse news originating from panels as well. And, of course, there are the comic books themselves. All in all, there’s still much to get geeked about.
