Avengers: Endgame Director Reveals Who He Wants To See Dwayne Johnson Play In The MCU

We're still waiting for him to actually appear in the DCEU after being attached to Black Adam for years, but it seems that Dwayne Johnson might end up snagging a role in the Marvel universe beforehand. The rumors started when The Rock apparently teased that he was joining the MCU in a social media post back in April. It remains to be confirmed, of course, if anything is actually in the works, but if it is really happening, fans want to know which character the studio's looking at him to play.

Avengers: Endgame co-director Anthony Russo has got a better idea, though: let Johnson play himself. When asked which Marvel superhero The Rock should be in the MCU at the MTV Awards, Russo joked: “The superhero that I would most like The Rock to play is The Rock. He is the best version of him.”

Honestly, Johnson could be dropped into the MCU playing a fictionalized version of himself and save the word alongside the Avengers and we wouldn’t bat an eyelid, but hopefully this is Russo using humor to mask the fact that there’s a real possibility that the star could sign up for the franchise in the near future.

Recently, one rumor got fans excited, as it was said that Marvel was looking at casting Johnson as Ben Grimm/The Thing for their upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. The idea of The Rock playing a man made of rocks is hilarious, so we hope it happens because of that alone. It doesn’t sound out of the question, either. No doubt the Thing would be a CG creation, so having Johnson in a voice-only role presumably wouldn’t be too much of a drag on his schedule – much like Bradley Cooper as Rocket.

As for his DC gig, Jungle Cruise‘s Jaume Collet-Serra recently signed up to direct the solo Black Adam movie, so hopefully things will get going on that soon. Fingers crossed Dwayne Johnson will match it with an MCU part, too.
