Ed Boon Would Love To See Pennywise DLC For Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat 11 continues to capture headlines long after its release and for good reason. With the honeymoon period now well and truly over, the general consensus on NetherRealm's latest addition to the MK family has been overtly positive, with particular praise heaped on its equal parts familiar and fresh cast, meaty story mode and a wealth of customisation options. But even crammed with the content that it is, series co-creator Ed Boon and his team are far from ready to move on.

With the honeymoon period now well and truly over, the general consensus on NetherRealm’s latest addition to the MK family has been overtly positive, with particular praise heaped on its equal parts familiar and fresh cast, meaty story mode and a wealth of customization options. But even crammed with the content that it is, series co-creator Ed Boon and his team are far from ready to move on.

In fact, post-launch support for the brawler is currently moving full steam ahead, with the first of several DLC characters, Shang Tsung, having recently joined the existing cast. The evil sorcerer is but one of three series mainstays scheduled to bolster MK 11‘s character sheet in the coming months alongside Sindel and Nightwolf, but NetherRealm doesn’t intend to stop there. Three guest characters from other popular comic book and film franchises are to follow, the first of which is Todd McFarlane’s Spawn.

At this point, Terminator and Ash Williams are more or less confirmed to be the remaining two, but was that always going to be the case? At the very least, Ed Boon wishes he could have secured the inclusion of someone (or more accurately something) else.

As you can see above, in response to one fan’s desperate call for Pennywise to make an appearance in Mortal Kombat 11, Boon not only retweeted their request but contributed to the discussion with “Me: Looking back on when I…” followed by a link to the Stevie Wonder track “I Wish.” A playful response, as always, from the industry veteran, and one that seemingly suggests that at one time or another, NetherRealm had attempted to secure Stephen King’s character for its game. If so, it sadly seems that such a crossover was never meant to be.

But look on the bright side. IT: Chapter Two is out in cinemas later this year and looks to be every bit the sequel fans have been hoping for.
