Spider-Man: Far From Home Has A Surprising Connection To Captain Marvel

Spoiler warning! Spider-Man: Far From Home teases a big connection to Captain Marvel, but you might have to stick around after the end credits to see it.

Taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Spidey’s newest movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home, is chock-full of connections and references to other movies within the MCU. Heck, the first few minutes after the opening title sequence features an amateur video tribute to the heroes who gave their lives to undo the effects of Thanos’ devastating, universe-altering Snap, which is now being referred to as the Blip.

When he’s tasked by Nick Fury with working alongside Mysterio to take down the Elementals, Spider-Man even invokes the name of a few other superheroes, including Doctor Strange, Thor, and Captain Marvel — the latter of which brings about a rather stern reaction from the S.H.I.E.L.D. director. At the time, that particular moment didn’t make much sense to audiences, but it becomes clear once the end-credits scene rolls around.

As we previously reported, the final sequence reveals that Nick Fury and Maria Hill (or at least, the versions in the film) are, in fact, Skrulls. These shape-shifting aliens (who were first seen in Captain Marvel) have the ability to easily impersonate humans, and it seems that husband and wife duo Talos and Soren were tasked with masquerading for the two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, who are off in space, aboard a highly-advanced spaceship.

It’s not entirely clear what Nick Fury is doing off-planet, but the running theory is Marvel is laying the foundation to introduce S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department). For those who need an explanation, S.H.I.E.L.D. takes care of threats originating on Earth, while its new counterpart handles forces that come from, well, outer space.

Yep, along with the mid-credits scene, it’s no surprise Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s ending sequences have been driving fans wild. Personally, we can’t wait to see how Peter handles things going forward, though we imagine it’ll be a few years before the next Spidey movie drops. Until then, be sure to keep checking back with us for new updates and info.
