“With the Marvel things, they have so many films happening at the same time and all of them interweave with one another,” he says. “Oftentimes you’re not exactly sure what’s happening, even me. I’m an executive producer on [Avengers: Endgame], I didn’t always know what was going on.”

Wait till Holland hears about this! If he thought the Paltrow comments were heartbreaking, this is just going to make matters even worse. Next thing he knows, Robert Downey Jr. will be struggling to recall the time he was onscreen with the web-slinger.

All of this lighthearted drama stems from the Academy Award-winning actress’ appearance in Favreau’s new Netflix series The Chef Show. The two of them were cooking alongside chef Roy Choi and discussing their history in the MCU when the filming of Spider-Man: Homecoming was brought up. Confusion ensued before Paltrow ultimately admitted that she thought that footage was a part of one of the Avengers movies. Holland jokingly commented on the matter, claiming with a chuckle that he was heartbroken.

Things could definitely be worse for the 23-year-old, though. While Paltrow may have forgotten she was in his movie, at least she knows who he is. At the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War, the actress had to ask Chris Pratt who Sebastian Stan was. That one has to hurt.

Then again, Paltrow will be the first to admit that she still hasn’t seen Avengers: Endgame. Her interest in the MCU seems to be waning with each new film, which is probably why she announced her retirement from the franchise earlier this year. Maybe now she’ll finally have time to catch up on the movies she’s forgotten that she starred in.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently playing in theaters nationwide. It remains to be seen if Jon Favreau will remember down the road that he appeared in this Marvel movie as well, though.
