Gone are the days when A-list actors and the film community in general would look down on superhero movies as simple cash-ins, existing as a surefire way for companies to ship nine kinds of merchandise and those involved to make a quick buck. How times have changed, eh?

With Marvel’s colossal universe boasting some of Hollywood’s biggest names and DC doing their best to compete, it won’t be long before it’s more difficult to find someone who hasn’t starred in a comic book movie, as opposed to one who has. Which brings us to today’s story.

Matthew McConaughey is an actor who’s long been linked to various Marvel projects. At one point, we heard he was being eyed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, while there’ve also been rumors for years now that he might be showing up in the MCU as Norman Osborn. To date, nothing has panned out just yet for the Interstellar star, but sources close to We Got This Covered tell us that the studio still wants to work with him.

In particular, they’d love for McConaughey to play a villain in the MCU and though we weren’t able to get any specifics on which role they want him for, we were told that he may show up in either Captain Marvel 2 or Thor 4. Again, it’s unclear which character he would play, but we’re told it’d be a villainous part.

We imagine it’d be the main antagonist, too, given how big of a name he is, but at this point, it’s hard to say. Especially since we’ve already been told that Thor 4‘s chief baddie will be a female. In any case, you can now cue the speculation.

Then again, as always with these things, we’ll stress that just because Marvel wants Matthew McConaughey in the MCU that doesn’t mean it’ll happen. The studio can’t and doesn’t always get what they want, as we’ve seen in the past, but for now, we can confirm that they’re certainly interested in having him in a villainous role in one of the aforementioned films, and how exciting is that?
