Dwayne Johnson Thinks The DCEU Will Have A Black Superman One Day

The Rock thinks we'll see a black Superman in theaters someday. Or so he said in an interview at the premiere of Hobbs & Shaw.

Seeing how Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be going up against Idris Elba’s self-proclaimed “Black Superman” in Hobbs & Shaw in a couple weeks, and will be starring in Black Adam in the near future, one might see why he has a case of superheroes on the brain.

In an interview with Variety, Johnson was questioned about diversity in Hollywood, and within the comic book movie genre in particular, and he had some cool things to say.

“I think they’re doing great, I think obviously Marvel has done a tremendous job in building out,” The Rock stated. “And also, for me, we’re doing Black Adam with Warner Brothers and DC, we’re very excited about that.”

He finished with quite the interesting prediction though, revealing that he thinks we’ll see a black Superman one day:

“And maybe one day we’ll see a black Superman. You’re looking at him.”

Sorry, Rock…you’re only allowed to play one superhero per cinematic universe. I hear Wolverine is open, though? Not that we wouldn’t particularly like to see him take the role of Clark Kent, but the guy has his hands almost as full as Keanu Reeves these days. Jumanji: The Next Level hits theaters in December and Hobbs & Shaw arrives next month. And don’t even get me started with 2020.

Thanks to the multiverse though, Johnson’s prediction just might come true. With rumors that DC might be making a live-action Superman: Red Son movie, and decades of comic book material to use, the possibilities are endless. In fact, in the source material, on a different earth, the hero was actually black and went by the alter ego Calvin Ellis. He was also the President of the United States, being modeled after our own 44th president, Barack Obama.

But what do you think? Will the DCEU one day have a black Superman? As always, sound off down below with your thoughts.
