Michonne Attacks A Whisperer In First Walking Dead Season 10 Photo

Ahead of its panel at this week's San Diego Comic-Con, AMC has now revealed the first photo from The Walking Dead season 10, and it's awesome.

If there’s one comic book-based franchise that doesn’t feature a superhero that remains incredibly popular these days, it’s without a doubt The Walking Dead. Since premiering on AMC nearly ten years ago, the horror series has been able to succeed in captivating viewers in an entertainment landscape that’s already full of zombies. In fact, it’s now heading into its tenth season, and has even brought us a spinoff in the form of Fear The Walking Dead.

Yes, make no mistake about it. Even despite the dip in ratings, the brand remains as healthy as ever and now, as production continues on for the next run, we’ve got our very first look at season 10 thanks to the photo below. Brought to us by Entertainment Weekly, it sees Michonne swinging her sword at a Whisperer – or perhaps a Walker?

Pretty cool, right? Speaking to EW, showrunner Angela Kang commented on the fire in the picture, saying the following about it:

“One of the things that we have going on this season is, we’re continuing some explorations of natural elements and how they play into our world. And fire is one of those elements that comes into play in a few key ways that twist the story in a way that will be pretty exciting.”

“Fire is terrifying now,” Kang said. “But we sort of take for granted that we have people that can deal with it. It obviously has very different implications for our people in an apocalyptic world. I don’t want to give too much away about this particular story because hopefully there’s some unexpected aspects to it. But we will definitely see our people trying to contend with things that they can’t handle in the same ways that we do in our world now.”

Color us intrigued, and though the showrunner was careful not to spill too much too soon, it seems we won’t have to wait long until we learn more. After all, AMC has already outlined their plans for San Diego Comic-Con 2019, with both The Walking Dead and its sister series, Fear The Walking Dead, confirmed to be in attendance.

The date for your diary? July 19th, which is when we fully expect to catch the very first trailer for season 10 of TWD. We’ll have it for you here as soon as it drops, so be sure to stay tuned.
