Disney has already committed to remaking many of the beloved princess tales that it’s known for. Following the successes of the 2015 flick Cinderella and the recent reimagining of Aladdin, the studio is now putting its efforts into live-action reboots of Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas and more. While the women are undoubtedly the highlights of these features, the men that they ultimately fall for are also pivotal to the plots.
Of course, one of the most iconic characters in any princess film is Prince Charming, whose life and backstory has never really been explored by Disney. That is, until now.
According to our sources, the studio is reportedly in the midst of developing a live-action movie revolving around Prince Charming. While the details are still unclear, there are limitless options as to where the Mouse House could go with this. They might choose to explore his formative years prior to crushing on a princess or tell his side of the story after meeting the love of his life. The story could even tell the tale of his life after marrying his beloved or go in a different direction altogether.
In any case, back in 2015, Disney acquired a spec script by Matt Fogel that could fit this project well, as the comical story was reportedly to be told from the point of view of the prince’s bumbling brother. The studio could decide to use this plot for the upcoming project, considering it’s been sitting on the shelf for the past few years after they won it in a bidding war with their competition.
Much like the planned Chip ‘n’ Dale live-action adaptation though, the story has the potential to go in any direction the filmmakers please. Since Prince Charming himself has always been a pretty vague character, the movie could quite possibly be an amalgam of all of the aforementioned suggestions or a new idea entirely. Either way, it’ll definitely be something fans want to keep an eye on going forward.
