The breaking news is coming thick and fast from this year’s San Diego Comic Con, with one of the biggest revelations being the jaw-dropping announcement that Superman Returns star Brandon Routh will be donning the costume once again to play the Man of Steel in the upcoming Arrowverse multi-show crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”
Obviously, Routh has already been a part of the Arrowverse for years having debuted as Ray Palmer in Arrow back in 2014 before taking the character across to spinoff series Legends of Tomorrow, but for those that don’t follow The CW’s sprawling shared universe, the 39 year-old is still best known for playing Superman in Bryan Singer’s 2006 big-screen reboot.
Routh certainly looked the part as the Big Blue Boy Scout, but unfortunately Superman Returns wasn’t quite the massive hit Warner Bros. was expecting at the time and any hopes of a sequel were quietly abandoned before the iconic comic book character was rebooted again several years later in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe-launching Man of Steel.
Anyways, soon after the news broke, Routh took to social media to react to the Arrowverse’s latest shocking development:

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” will see Routh’s Superman cross paths with Tyler Hoechlin’s version of the character that was first introduced in Supergirl, and the two actors certainly seem excited about sharing the screen together:

“Crisis on Infinite Earths” is shaping up to be the biggest crossover event in Arrowverse history, especially with the upcoming eighth season of Arrow set to be the last, leading to much speculation over the ultimate fate of Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen. The five episode crossover will span two months, with the first episodes set to be screened in December.
