We’re less than six months away from the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with ongoing hints and theories about the next film in the saga making us more than a little excited. Now, Marvel have announced a prelude comics series to the conclusion of the current phase of the Star Wars universe. Revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel are bringing us four issues of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – Allegiance.
Written by Ethan Sacks with art by Luke Ross, the comic follows the trend of prelude series before a big movie premiere. Given the time between the announcement and the December launch of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we’ll probably be seeing the first issue arrive in September. What events the comics will cover are a bit more unclear, although they’ll likely expand on and introduce many storylines prior to the plot of the latest movie.
The promo art for the series contains some clues of what to expect, including the regular cast of the current trilogy, as well as Leia, an appearance we’re already aware of. More intriguing tidbits include an image of Rey fighting some sort of monster on an unidentified planet. Past Marvel prequel series for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi filled in some important plot points for the upcoming movie, so expect the same here.
We don’t predict there’ll be many spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in the officially licensed comics, but they should whet fans’ appetite during the fall. Although Disney don’t have a big presence at SDCC, preferring to focus on D23 in August, we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for any other Star Wars tie-in news from the convention this weekend, so stay tuned.
