When it comes to continuing the legacy of Halloween, the first person one would normally seek out for any sort of sequel would be that of Jamie Lee Curtis. After all, her character, Laurie Strode, is about as synonymous with the series as Michael Myers himself – and she’ll fortunately be coming back for Halloween Kills.
Believe it or not, word on the street is that director David Gordon Green may dig a little deeper by bringing back Tommy Doyle for his highly anticipated sequel. This news comes to us courtesy of Collider’s new podcast, The Sneider Cut, in which Jeff Sneider and Variety’s Justin Kroll say they’ve both heard the same information through the grapevine.
If you’re in need of a refresher, Tommy Doyle (then played by Brian Andrews) was one of the two kids Laurie had been babysitting the very night the Shape unleashed himself upon Haddonfield in John Carpenter’s 1978 original. Then, Danny Ray inherited the role in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, with Paul Rudd playing the character as an adult in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.
Before I go any further, it’s worth mentioning that Rudd was approached about reprising his role – even though his movie’s ignored by Green’s continuity – but he’s unavailable due his involvement with Ghostbusters 3. That’s too bad, because it would’ve been cool to see him again in this capacity.
Regardless, we do have Nick Castle coming back in some form, as I’d imagine he’ll suit up as Michael for at least one scene. This acquisition didn’t shock me either, as Castle himself told me that he’d be down for another go-round when I interviewed him at Motor City Comic Con this past May.
In any case, we should find out who’s playing Tommy soon enough as Halloween Kills arrives in theaters on October 16th, 2020, with Halloween Ends set to follow on October 15th, 2021.
