Dave Bautista’s Tried Everything He Can To Make A Gears Of War Movie Happen

Dave Bautista says he's doing everything he can to make a Gears of War movie happen, but it's not going very well at the moment.

Video games are fun and movies are fun. But when the two come together, either in the form of a game or a film, the results usually range from disastrous to total disappointment.

The past few years have shown us countless examples, in fact, after the back-to-back flops of Assassin’s Creed and Duncan Jones’ hopeful franchise-starter, Warcraft: The Beginning. Sure, we’ve heard whispers of potential sequels for both movies, but without any tangible developments recently, the thought of revisiting the Animus – or even the mystical realm of Azeroth – is likely nothing more than wishful thinking.

Slowly but surely, though, it seems like things might be getting back on track. Though not perfect by any means, Detective Pikachu was a very enjoyable film and became one of the most successful video game adaptations of all-time. And with both James Wan’s Mortal Kombat movie and the Tom Holland-starring Uncharted picking up tons of buzz as well, the tide might be about to turn. Which brings us to Gears of War.

Gears of War

It’s been a while since we caught wind of the live-action tentpole, and the last we heard, Universal Pictures had hopped into bed with The Coalition, the video game dev who took over the iconic sci-fi series just in time for Gears of War 4. That was several years ago though and unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like there’s been much progress made since. But not for a lack of trying on the part of Dave Bautista.

Indeed, fans have been campaigning for the actor to star in the Gears movie for a very long time now and Bautista recently hopped on Twitter to give us all an update, saying that he’s tried everything to make the project happen, but his efforts just aren’t woking.

As much as we’d all love to see Dave step into the role of Marcus Fenix, the grizzled hero of the juggernaut franchise and the greatest threat the Locusts have ever come across, it seems we’re no closer to having that happen. And with no signs of tangible movement at all on Universal’s part in the past few years, it looks like the Gears of War movie will continue to percolate in development hell for a little while longer.
