Emma Stone Wants To Make A Zombieland Film Every Ten Years

People have been clamoring for a sequel to Zombieland ever since the original hit theaters back in 2009. And now that they're finally getting their wish, some forward-looking fans are already wondering where the franchise will go next. The hope is that the series won't just stop with Zombieland: Double Tap and if it were up to Emma Stone, there'd be plenty more flicks on the horizon.

According to director Ruben Fleischer, the actress wants to do a new installment every decade – something that we’d definitely be alright with.

“We have to see how this one’s received and if that’s something audiences would want, but I think we all had so much fun making this one, we’d be really lucky to get to return to Zombieland. Although, I will say, Emma [Stone] said, she thought it would be fun if we did one of these every 10 years… I can’t imagine a better way to look forward to my future than knowing that every ten years I get to hang out with those guys and make a movie with them again.”

That’s certainly encouraging news. If the cast and crew love each other as much as they claim, then there could be many more outings to come in the future. Waiting another decade won’t be fun, of course, but hopefully the studio will want another film right away if this latest flick does well at the box office. Given the massive success of the original, which grossed $102.4 million on a $23.6 million budget, the long-awaited follow-up is expected to do gangbusters.

Reassembling the cast for Zombieland: Double Tap likely wasn’t easy. Despite how much they all might like each other, these performers are all very busy. Woody Harrelson is a legend at this point in his career, Emma Stone is an Academy Award winner, Jessie Eisenberg is equally impressive and Abagail Breslin has a solid filmography to her name as well. Getting them all back for more installments after this one is going to be difficult as they’re probably all booked solid for the foreseeable future.

Then again, the Toy Story franchise has no problem bringing back Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and many more time and time again. If these accomplished actors can carve out chunks of their schedule to voice their iconic characters, it’s definitely possible for the aforementioned squad to do the same.

As of right now, fans should be content with the sequel they’re getting. Still, it’s hard not to be excited when Stone and Fleischer are talking about future Zombieland installments down the road.
