Variety has reported that The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star, Rooney Mara, has passed on the female lead role in Spike Lee’s remake of Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy.

Oldboy is set to star Josh Brolin in the lead role of the remake of cult classic and has Christian Bale in talks to play the lead villain.

The role is now a hot ticket in Hollywood and could potentially do great things for anyone involved, with the film already having a huge fan base due to the original’s success in Asia.

Set to begin shooting early next year, a potential reason for Mara passing may have been due to scheduling conflicts with The Girl Who Played With Fire, which still has not been greenlit yet but is an inevitability.

We can expect the role to be filled pretty quickly, with production gearing up to start early next year. It likely won’t be long before we get an announcement and when we do, we’ll let you know.
