While we expected a more recognizable franchise to help kick off Phase 4 of the MCU next year (alongside the standalone Black Widow) film, it looks like Marvel Studios is doubling down on The Eternals, which is set to build upon the cosmic side of the series. So far, we don’t know all that much about the upcoming project – plot details are being kept tightly under wraps – but Kevin Feige himself seems excited to have the opportunity to get moviegoers hyped about a relatively unknown group of characters.
At last month’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel pulled back the curtain on the film’s talented cast, which includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh and Don Lee. Recently, however, we heard reports that Gemma Chan was looking to join the roster, too, and some of you might remember her appearance in Captain Marvel, where she played Minn-Erva.
As EpicStream points out, Gemma would be playing a completely different role this time around, and as it happens, she’s not the only MCU actor who’s done so. For example, Laura Haddock, who played Meredith Quill (Star-Lord’s mother) in Guardians of the Galaxy, also made a brief appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger as a fan trying to get Steve Rogers’ autograph.
In the same film, actor Kenneth Choi played Howling Commando Jim Morita and he came back as Principal Morita in Spider-Man: Far From Home, as a descendant of the WWII soldier. Similarly, Martin Starr, who plays Peter Parker’s teacher, Mr. Harrington, also appeared in The Incredible Hulk as a security guard.
So, as you can see, Chan won’t be the first MCU actor to have the honor of playing different roles in the franchise.
