Aquaman Star Jason Momoa Fires Back At Body-Shamers Again

Last month, photos of Jason Momoa relaxing on the beach with his family revealed that the Aquaman star hadn’t maintained the muscular physique displayed in the recent DC blockbuster. And while you wouldn’t think that would be anyone’s business but his own, the actor has subsequently found himself to be the unlikely target of a wave of online body-shaming.

Naturally, the fans have since come to Momoa’s defense, and in a new video shared from Hawaii, the star offers his own response to the controversy while spreading a message of greater importance than the appearance of his so-called “dad bod.” In the short clip below, Momoa stands shirtless with the slogan, “TMT + Canary Islands = Discovery,” written across his chest. Speaking to the camera, he offers the following message:

“How’s that for a dad body? TMT, the Canary Islands want you. We don’t want you. Please leave.”

The video was taken from a recent demonstration protesting the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) on the dormant volcano Mauna Kea. Since 2014, the project has been met with resistance from Native Hawaiians, who regard the mountain as sacred land, but in 2017, the construction won final approval from the state. Momoa’s comments and the writing on his chest refer to the fact that the Canary Islands were considered as an alternative location for TMT.

Evidently, Momoa is having no trouble keeping busy between film projects, but you can catch him on the big screen once more when Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated Dune remake hits theaters on December 18th, 2020. After that, you can expect the star to get his Arthur Curry body back for Aquaman 2, which is scheduled for release on December 16th, 2022.
