Kevin Smith Begs Sony To Give Spider-Man Back To Disney

Kevin Smith of Fatman on Batman is pleading with Sony Pictures to meet Disney's demands amid the ongoing Spider-Man showdown.

When the credits rolled on Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Mysterio’s dying breath exposed Peter Parker to the world, comic book fans the world over began anticipating the third (and presumably final) chapter in the Marvel/Sony saga, which may well have forced Tom Holland’s Web-Head to seek legal counsel from the finest lawyer in Hell’s Kitchen.

Oh, what could have been. We say “could have” because, of course, Marvel Studios’ third Spider-Man pic hit a brick wall earlier this week, when it was revealed that negotiations between Disney and Sony Pictures had broken down, effectively throwing Spidey’s MCU presence into jeopardy.

Fast forward to today, and the situation is no better – in fact, it may well be worse, after Sony released an official statement on the matter and, in one fell swoop, confirmed all our worse fears to be true.

And sure enough, the Internet is up in arms. Front and center is comic book stalwart Kevin Smith, who posted his knee-jerk reaction to Twitter:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Just stop it! Please, Sony Pictures, give Disney what they want and many millions of us will keep giving you our money!

Similar to most comic book movie fans, Smith is simply pleading with Sony Pictures to “give Disney what they want” to ensure Tom Holland’s Spider-Man can remain part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The root cause of this standstill is Disney’s push for greater share of the Web-Head, which begs the question: should Sony really fold to a media conglomerate that has already banked $6 billion at the global box office in 2019 alone? We’ll leave that one to you.

Exactly where Spider-Man goes from here is still up for debate, but it seems, at the very least, Sony Pictures still hopes to make another two standalone movies with Tom Holland in the title role.
