Fans eagerly awaiting news about Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley’s team-up film Chaos Walking will be happy to hear that, after nearly a decade in production and three years of post-production drama, Lionsgate has announced that the movie will finally release in theaters on January 22nd, 2021.
Originally scheduled for release on March 1st, 2019, Chaos Walking was postponed for reshoots in 2018. Unfortunately for director Doug Liman, Holland’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and Ridley’s Star Wars commitments kept the reshoots from taking place for a year, resulting in the film being delayed indefinitely. Thankfully for fans though, the new or altered scenes eventually commenced shooting last year, allowing Lionsgate to finally offer some closure to years of issues.

Based on Patrick Ness’ acclaimed book series Chaos Walking, Liman’s science-fiction pic sees Holland take on the role of Todd Hewitt, a teenage boy who’s been brought up to believe that all of the women in his colony were killed by a deadly pathogen. Even more unusual, the pathogen allegedly brought along a special ability called Noise to the remaining men that allow them to read the minds of people and animals. But when Todd stumbles upon Ridley’s female character Viola, he’s forced to explore the mounting evidence that everything might not be what it seems, and the two unlikely companions set out to uncover the truth of their world.
Chaos Walking also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, David Oyelowo and Demián Bichir. Although it remains to be seen if the $15 million worth of substantial reshoots will improve or hamper the film, such a star-studded cast gives us plenty to be hopeful about when it lands in theaters next year.
In the meantime, Tom Holland may be soon fighting to keep on the Spider-Man suit if recent rumors are to be believed. With so much drama between Sony and Marvel and the unfortunate delays of Chaos Walking, Holland has had a stressful few years. Here’s to things looking up for Hollywood’s favorite lovable fellow, though.
