Christmastime is here, with happiness, cheer, decorations, snow, and most importantly, an endless list of Christmas movies and specials for you to choose from. It may be the most wonderful time of the year, but no one has time to watch every special available. Even if Saint Nick took a year off from making and delivering toys, he'd still fall well short of completing such a task. That doesn't mean we can't try though, right? In the spirit of the season, I believe everyone should try to set aside time for at least one holiday special or movie every day during December, ensuring a constant flow of holiday blissfulness.
For two seasons it's been lacking, this show about Ted and his friends, leading to much disgust with the writers' slacking, and fans dreaming of quicker ends. The stories have been far too flat, and the characters not much better, so many who once raptly watched and sat, now could hardly care how Ted met his true her. But there's still over half a season to go, that's time enough for a revival, but something great must happen to the show, for proof it deserves its legacy's survival. They've tried to continue with more of the same, but that plan's failure means try another, so the writers took a big leap away from lame, with a rhyming episode of How I Met Your Mother.
One of the better animated movies of 2013 is definitely DreamWorks' Turbo. Boasting a star-studded cast including Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, and Michael Peña, it tells the story of a small snail who dreams of racing in the Indy 500, despite the fact that all the odds are stacked against him.
Of all the future Marvel movies that have been officially announced, Ant-Man is probably the one we know the least about. We've heard the names of a handful of actors who may or may not have been considered for roles, and we've also heard that it will be a heist movie of sorts, but that's about it. A lot more information could be heading our way soon though, as casting for the film is supposed to be finalized by the end of the year.
Over the summer, we heard that The Amazing Spider-Man 4 could potentially focus on other heroes instead of just everyone's favorite web-slinger. Marc Webb had originally envisioned a trilogy of films, and he has been setting up the story to work in that structure. While he didn't say that Spidey wouldn't appear in number 4, he did make it sound as if that instalment of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise would have a slightly wider scope, with other characters at the forefront.
When watching Violet & Daisy, I constantly found myself thinking, "Hey, this isn't THAT bad." That middle ground is where the film resides for most of its length. There are some pretty awesome moments, and at times it's a lot of fun, but there are also some rough patches, poor performances and an overall feeling that a lot more could have (and should have) happened.
Christmas. Some would say it's all about the joy of the season and filling your heart with cheer. While that's fine and dandy, sometimes the whole gift aspect is pretty nice too. On that note, in the spirit of the Christmas season, we've got quite the prize package to send one lucky reader's way.
I've always had a special place in my heart for the Christmas season. It truly is the most magical time of the year and that spirit has been reflected in countless movies about the joy of Santa, giving, and the power of the season. But there have also been some awesome movies set during Christmas time that aren't necessarily Christmas films, Die Hard being the first to come to mind. Christmas is the only time of the year that can take an awesome action story like that and make it even better by throwing in carols and decorations, and that's part of why I love the snow and eggnog so much.
I absolutely love Christmas. It's hands-down my favorite time of year and many of my favorite movies are set around the holidays. So naturally, I jump at the chance to see any Christmas movie I can, even when it's not full of elves and reindeer. One of this year's new holiday films, All Is Bright, definitely isn't filled with traditional cheer and goodwill, but it's still a quality, darker spin on a Christmas tale.
So far, my biggest complaint with this season of How I Met Your Mother has been its focus on Barney and Robin's relationship. Yes, I knew it was coming. The season is taking place during their wedding weekend after all, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. Thankfully, this episode stayed far away from anything about the future bride and groom. Unfortunately, it focused on the only thing more annoying - Barney's immature outlook on his parents' relationship.
