Kevin James, joined by an impressive cast of voice talent, should be enough to set Zookeeper a cut above the rest. Only, Columbia Pictures’ new comedy involving a zookeeper and his rambunctious zoo animals simply isn’t a cut above the rest, as much as it wants to be. Coming out in theaters today, this movie is cute enough for the kiddos but will be tedious for the adults who aren’t so easily amused by silly jokes, physical comedy, or squabbling zoo creatures.

Though it isn’t set to come out until June 22, 2012, teaser trailers and a few released images of Disney Pixar’s Brave have already excited plenty of buzz. This new and original take on a “princess” fairytale looks like a Celtic-flavored girl-power animated adventure. Not only do I expect the best from Pixar when it comes to CG animation, but I’m interested in seeing how their first film starring a heroine instead of a hero turns out.
Thor 2 is still in its early phases, and though it lacks a director, it has found a writer in scribe Don Payne. Deadline reports that Payne, a co-screenwriter on Thor, will return to script the sequel. After it opened to dismal reviews and poor box office returns, Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 looked to be the first and only film in the potential trilogy to get made. Now, 24 Frames reports that producer and scriptwriter John Aglialoro will go ahead with parts 2 and 3, thanks to a home-entertainment distribution deal struck with 20th Century Fox.
With the Fourth of July just around the corner, most of us stateside are contemplating holiday BBQs, fireworks, and national pride. Maybe it’s the 100+ degree weather we’ve been having here in Texas, but I’m contemplating some good movie home entertainment during the holiday, and naturally it has to be something patriotic. That brings us to the Top Ten list of the season; here are the best of the best in "patriotica" from over the years.
