There's a second Footloose trailer out, and it looks like it's going for the angsty teen demographic in a big way. Based on the classic 1984 Kevin Bacon-starring dance drama, the remake not only sports the angsty tagline of "This is our time," but also what looks to be synchronized street dances and some acrobatics too.
News came last week that The Lone Ranger, Disney's tentpole remake starring Johnny Depp and directed by Gore Verbinski, was canceled due to budget issues. Now, word has it that the budget was so high because of the CGI effects needed to bring the werewolf elements of the story to life. That's right, The Lone Ranger wasn't going to be just another western but a sort of Indian spirituality werewolf thing.
The Help hit theaters nationwide this week and controversy has already sprung up about the film, which is a ‘60s-era pic about black maids and their white employers, and a secret women’s literary endeavour. The Association of Black Women Historians came out with a statement recently condemning the film and the novel it’s based on as a story that “distorts, ignores and trivializes the experiences of black domestic workers.”

Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming horror/thriller Don’t Be Afraid looks to be a spooky, atmospheric thrill ride. Hitting theaters on August 26th, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark has released some eerie trailers and clips that have me highly intrigued. And though del Toro didn’t direct this horror pic, he co-wrote the script and co-produced it, so there should be plenty of his dark imagination when it comes to supernatural scares.
Rumors have it that the long-awaited Riddick sequel is gathering steam and is busy casting sexy new characters. The sequel as of now is being called Riddick, and is concentrating more on being a direct sequel to the original Pitch Black instead of a continuation of the commercially disappointing The Chronicles of Riddick. This third installment in the sci fi saga of a galactic bad-ass antihero will see original director David Twohy re-teaming with Pitch Black star Vin Diesel.
Today we have more leaks and sneak peeks of upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, thanks to a photo tweet from Ross Petrocelli. For those of you who don't want to know anything more about the much buzzed about Batman sequel starring Christian Bale and directed by franchise king Christopher Nolan, look away now. The photo reveals Batman's new vehicle which may have wheels as well as wings.
The under-performing horror/comedy pic Dylan Dog: Dead of Night got a Blu-Ray release on July 26th from 20th Century Fox. Based on a popular Italian comic book about a detective for the undead, the movie is a fun stylized romp that stars Brandon Routh and Sam Huntington. Unfortunately, the Blu-Ray is disappointingly light on extras. By light I mean not at all.
