XCOM: Enemy Unknown is an invigorating experience, and stands out as one of this year’s best games. It may not necessarily win game of the year, but there is definitely a strong case for its candidacy.
I’m not sure what inspired game companies to bring back the more classic FPS experience I grew up with, but I’m glad they did. With the success of Serious Sam 3 and Rise of the Triad in development, I dare say we’re standing in the door way of a new golden era of gaming. Cult classic Painkiller is finally getting the reboot treatment as Painkiller: Hell & Damnation will be released on PC’s this Halloween. Those of you looking to slay some demons on consoles will have to wait until January 22nd.
NBA 2K13 is the best basketball game of this console generation, though only slightly. There isn't enough to fully separate this year's iteration from last year's offering, so casual fans who bought in last year may be safe holding on to their money.
My god, it’s almost here! I’ve been waiting for Retro City Rampage for years, but all of that is about to pay off. The best game to never come out of the 90’s is set to release on PS3, Vita and PC tomorrow bringing one of most unique titles of the year to the masses. (Xbox 360 and Wii owners will just have to wait a bit longer)
Unless you religiously play Orcs Must Die! 2, it’s very hard to justify this purchase. There's nothing particularly bad about this booster, but it doesn't contain anything that a casual fan would need.
I’ll be honest; I haven’t followed the Splinter Cell franchise all that much in recent years, but there’s something about this reboot that just seems off to me. The series which took pride in its cerebral stealth gameplay has devolved into yet another Hollywood action film-esque game with explosions and giant guns galore. Sure, Splinter Cell Blacklist looks good in its own right, but it’s a far cry from the series I used to know. The latest trailer tries to show off a few more of the stealth elements along with some gadgets, but when they’re surrounded by explosions they lose a bit of their luster.
Dishonored is shaping up to be my most anticipated title of the year, and with every video Arkane Studios release I get that much closer to hype overload. Taking a break from showing off creative kills or ways to sneak into dinner parties, the latest series of trailers aims to give you some insight into the shadowy back alley trade that is the whaling economy found in Dunwall. The series is being broken into three parts, and you can check out The Tales from Dunwall, Part 1 below.
To The Moon surpasses the genre in almost every way conceivable. It may not stand out as the best game you have ever played, but it is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding and touching pieces of media I have ever encountered.
While it's not a perfect game, Torchlight II has set the new standard for the ARPG genre. Genre fans will find a lot to love here while newcomers would be hard pressed to find a better place to join in
Defending the world from an alien invasion isn’t an easy task. Sometimes, you need to call in help. Sometimes, you need to call in the big guns. Sometimes, you need to bring in Sid Meier himself to help save the planet.
