It's day two and while Friday was a bit hit and miss filmwise, the day itself was massively enjoyable as always. The second day though was when things really got going, more movies, more directors and more premiers. So without further ado, here’s a run through of what was on offer.
Glasgow FrightFest has became a staple of my year since the first time that a few friends and I took a punt on spending almost a full day in the cinema watching horror movies. Since then it has grown, with more and more films being screened each year.
The gaming industry is a wonderful movement that continues to re-invent itself and its medium in a way that film and television can't quite seem to keep up with. Yes, we have had 3D films for a while now and while they seemed to be a big deal at first with a few major blockbusters, namely the likes of Avatar and TRON: Legacy, they focused on the type of 3D experience that had objects flying towards you or jumping out of the screen for a shallow but quite entertaining gimmick. Now the 3DS has taken it in the opposite direction, 3D no longer has to mean cheap tricks and jumpy visuals. It has now grasped the sense of depth needed to be taken seriously as a graphical format, but just what does this new hardware have to offer?
UFC returns to Versus with quite the card. There were a number of fights that had to be cancelled or rescheduled but for UFC’s first card in Kentucky I’m certain it won’t disappoint. As always Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg are our commentators tonight.
The crowd is red hot tonight in Australia. It’s obvious why UFC 127 was the quickest sell-out in UFC history as these people love it. Some notes on the show are Brian Ebersole replacing Carlos Condit due to Condit suffering a knee injury. Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg are our commentators tonight.
Doctor Carole Lieberman, the psychologist who Fox News quoted directly linking a rise in rape with video games, has officially gone on record about that quote with Kotaku. Those hoping for some sort of retraction will be un-shockingly disappointed.
It’s hard to find anyone who isn’t excited about the new Mortal Kombat game that will be with us soon. Moving back to what the franchise is famous for and away from the disappointing fatalities of Mortal Kombat vs, DC Universe, the next instalment is looking pretty damn good. Today we got another look at what’s coming with the release of a new trailer showing off the story of Earth Realms greatest champion Liu Kang. As a Sub-Zero fan though I have to admit I’m not the happiest of chaps over the Special Edition's book ends, though it does look pretty cool. Check it out below and let us know what you think.
No we haven’t made this up, dear god I wish we had. A self professed “Media Psychologist” named Dr Carole Lieberman has claimed that a large amount of the blame for an increase in rape lies at the door of the video game world. It’s ok, feel free to read that a few times to let it set in before we continue.
With only 12 days (or 15 in Europe) until the game releases, Capcom have revealed a bevy of new screens featuring DLC characters Jill Valentine and series favourite Shuma-Gorath for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The DLC will be released one month after launch.
In what has to be one of the most interesting, and perhaps important, video game related stories of the year, pro video game action group, Gamers' Voice, has filled a complaint to the office of fair trading, concerning the PC and PS3 versions of Call Of Duty: Black Ops.
If you bought the game at launch you will be aware of the severe problems found while trying to play online. The main issues being sudden disconnections during online play, the inability to join servers hosting online multiplayer games, freezing of the console and the main menu freezing on the PC version. And as far as Gamers' Voice (and the many people that contacted them concerning this issue) is concerned, Activision (the publisher) and Treyarch (the developer) have released a product that is not fit for the purpose of which it's described. Basically, a video game that doesn't play like it's supposed to. You can read the open letter to the office of fair trading here.
