Chris Pratt‘s The Tomorrow War hit Amazon Prime Video last week and has defied critics to become a monster hit. Audiences seem to be loving its dumb-but-fun blockbuster action, the movie is lighting up social media, and it's apparently breaking viewing records. The time-traveling tale sees Pratt playing Dan Forester, a biology teacher and special forces veteran who gets sucked into 2051, where the future is drafting soldiers from the past in a last-ditch attempt to save Earth from aliens.

Fox Didn’t Want Will Smith To Star In Independence Day Because He’s Black
Independence Day is now 25 years old and has become a 90s pop culture totem. The film is regularly quoted on social media, has spawned a tonne of memes, and Bill Pullman's epic Presidential speech uniting Earth against the alien menace still kicks a whole bunch of ass. While some of the CGI compositing looks a bit rough by modern standards, the epic destruction sequences still hold up beautifully thanks to excellent use of intricate models and slow-motion photography.

Star Wars: Visions Anime Show Won’t Be Canon
Disney recently unveiled Star Wars: Visions, a new anthology show featuring takes on a galaxy far, far away from some of the best anime studios around. The collection will consist of seven short films in which the creators have been let off the leash when it comes to storytelling. The coolest sounding are Kamikaze Douga's "The Duel", Kinema Citrus' "The Village Bride" and, (as I'm a long-time Neon Genesis Evangelion fan), Production IG's "The Ninth Jedi".

Whatever your opinions are of the 'Kelvinverse' Star Trek movies it's difficult to deny they raised the profile of the franchise after a shaky period. Enterprise had been something of a damp squib and Star Trek: Nemesis failed at the box office. Bringing the original crew of the USS Enterprise back with a new cast proved to be a smart decision, with their streamlined and glossy adventures spawning two sequels.

Gal Gadot Reportedly Still Trying To Keep A Low Profile After Twitter Controversy
Back in May Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot waded into the Gaza crisis with a Twitter post that saw her dubbed a war propagandist, an apologist for genocide and a supporter of apartheid. Gadot, a former IDF soldier, said the “cycle has been going on long enough” and that “Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation” before offering up thoughts and prayers for the victims of the conflict. This drew global condemnation, caused #CancelGalGadot to trend and now we're seeing reports that she's still minimizing her online activity as a result.

The conceit is that in the year 2051 Earth is being invaded by aliens, with humanity now on the brink of extinction.

Hockey Mask From Jason Goes To Hell Sells For $225,000 At Auction
This week has seen the Entertainment Memorabilia: Treasures from Film and Television live auction take place, with a tonne of amazing props on sale for those with deep pockets. These have ranged from a 'Terror Dog' stop motion puppet from Ghostbusters (sold for $11,000), a Velociraptor egg prop from Jurassic Park (sold for $16,000), to Vasquez's M-41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens (a whopping $85,000). But all of that pales in comparison to one iconic Friday the 13th prop: Jason Voorhees' iconic hockey mask.

The Batman Photos Showcase The Next Dark Knight
Matt Reeves' The Batman comes at an interesting time for the titular hero. Warner Bros' plan to leave behind Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck's take on the Dark Knight was derailed when Zack Snyder's Justice League became an unexpected hit and audiences began clamoring for his story to be continued. Though the chances of the Snyderverse continuing seem slim, Affleck will reprise the role in The Flash alongside Michael Keaton's Burtonverse Batman.
