Star Wars: Episode IX To Commence Filming In January 2018
Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars production line is a well-oiled machine, with the studio looking more than capable of fulfilling its ambition of releasing a new instalment in the franchise annually. So, it's with no great surprise that production of Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars: Episode IX is firmly underway behind (very) closed doors at Disney, with filming reported to be commencing as soon as January 2018 with a targeted release date of May 24th, 2019.

Rian Johnson Was Pretty Much Given A Blank Page With Star Wars: The Last Jedi
I've been following the career of Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson ever since he made the astonishingly awesome Brick way back in 2005. That little indie high-school noir propelled him (and star Joseph Gordon-Levitt) onto bigger things, including twisty time-travel caper Looper and some of the best episodes of Breaking Bad (though we'll conveniently forget about his sophomore feature The Brothers Bloom). Having met the guy on one of his trips to London a couple of years ago, I can personally attest to Rian Johnson being a completely awesome human being.

Universal’s Dark Universe Is Explained In This Awesome New Video
I may be a bit skeptical about The Mummy and Universal's attempt to take a bite of the MCU shared universe fad via their classic horror properties in what they're calling the Dark Universe, but I have to admit that this companion featurette they've put together is pretty cool. It's chock full of clips from the classic movies they're remaking, paired together with the creative minds behind the universe hyping up what's to come.

Star Wars: Episode IX Was Going To Be Carrie Fisher’s Movie, Says Kathleen Kennedy
Vanity Fair's excellent Star Wars: The Last Jedi cover story has delivered a ton of new information about the film, but one of the more poignant bits is the revelation that Episode IX was set to feature Carrie Fisher in a central role, similar to how crucial Harrison Ford's Han Solo was to The Force Awakens. Kathleen Kennedy explains that the moment they finished shooting The Last Jedi, Fisher grabbed her and said, "I’d better be at the forefront of IX!" "She thought IX would be her movie, says Kennedy. "And it would have been.”

It Looks Like TRON: Legacy’s Joseph Kosinski Is Directing Top Gun 2
Top Gun 2 has been a perennial rumor for years, but now it looks as if production has kicked into gear, with TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski apparently the top choice to helm the movie. No one's signed on the dotted line yet, but insiders believe Skydance and Paramount are set to make an offer to Kosinski in the very near future, following his by all accounts impressive pitch to the studio.

That's courtesy of today's Vanity Fair cover story, in which a load of delicious morsels about the next Star Wars film were revealed. Each of these news nuggets fills in some blanks about the upcoming blockbuster, and we're hungry for as many as we can get. One of the more tantalizing, though, was the reveal of who Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro will be playing.

This New Transformers: The Last Knight TV Spot Gives Us Our First Look At Dragonstorm
Transformers: The Last Knight is shaping up to be a pretty weird summer blockbuster. Not only is the central conceit that series hero Optimus Prime has turned evil and decided to destroy earth a bit of a shocker, but the upcoming film also features Nazis and an appearance by none other than King Arthur himself. Now, this new trailer shows us that they've thrown a giant mechanical three-headed robot dragon into the mix, too, because at this point, why not?

Terrible New Spider-Man: Homecoming Poster Released
All in all, things are looking pretty good for Spider-Man: Homecoming. Tom Holland comes at the webslinger having already proved himself in Captain America: Civil War and a steady stream of stylish one-sheets and fun trailers have successfully stoked hype around the film. But it looks as if Spider-Man's marketing hot streak has come to an end now with this awful blancmange of floating heads that we've embedded for you down below.
