As much as the fans and Ryan Reynolds want to see Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine, the Logan star seems pretty content to let someone else handle the role, and with the impending Disney/Fox deal not even final yet, it could be a long wait before we see anyone wield the claws in the MCU. Nonetheless, as unlikely as it is that Jackman will be showing up in next year’s Avengers: Endgame, a simple Google algorithm mistake was all it took to give the fans hope.
To mark the birthday of his old Sherlock Holmes co-star and soon-to-be fellow MCU inhabitant Jude Law, Robert Downey Jr. took to Twitter with a special message for the man who once played the Watson to his Holmes.
Having already dropped two full trailers this year that have sent the fans into a frenzy of excitement, the promotion for Captain Marvel could’ve spent these next couple of months recycling its pre-released footage for run-of-the-mill TV spots and the film would’ve still got a huge opening come March. Nonetheless, it seems that Marvel Studios is willing to show us just a little more from Carol Danvers’ solo debut, with ESPN scheduled to broadcast another preview in just over a week’s time.
In these last few weeks, the fans have been sent back and forth on the identity of Jude Law’s character in Captain Marvel. While the assumption for much of the year was that the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star is playing Mar-Vell in the upcoming MCU flick, a Funko! Pop leak from last month suggested that his role is instead the villainous Yon-Rogg. An image caption found earlier this week on Disney’s official movie site, however, indicated that we were right the first time, labelling Law’s character as “Mar-Vell, the leader of Starforce,” but now another toy leak is suggesting Yon-Rogg once again. Confused yet?
We’re at the tail end of what’s proven to be a pretty underwhelming month for Star Wars: Episode IX when you consider the buzz we've been hearing for these past few weeks. At the start of December, word was that the first trailer for next year's trilogy-closer would be dropping by Christmas. But as the 25th drew ever nearer, the fans started adjusting their expectations, and so the predominant rumor became that a behind-the-scenes video was on the way. Sadly, even that prediction turned out to be overly optimistic, but if you’re still hoping that Lucasfilm might surprise us with some footage on New Year's Eve or Day, a new report from the Express suggests otherwise.
Even beyond the heroine’s upcoming solo debut and her pivotal role in Avengers: Endgame, it’s clear that Captain Marvel will be a pretty major player in the MCU's future. But to go one further, some fans have even suggested that Carol Danvers just might be about to inherit a position as new leader of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
A fanbase can be a fickle crowd, as liable to territorially defend their franchise of choice as they are to turn against it with all the fervor of Annie Wilkes in Misery, and for a saga that inspires as much passion as Star Wars, the fan consensus has an interesting and eventful history in itself. Just take this new video from EckhartsLadder, which discusses the initial reception to Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and how the film’s reputation took a turn for the worse over the years.
Josh Brolin has really been doing the rounds this year when it comes to superhero cinema. Not only did the Oscar-nominated actor star as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War before teaming up with Wade Wilson in Deadpool 2, but he also ended 2018 on a third box office hit as a member of the Aquaman cast. Well, not exactly.
David Gordon Green’s Halloween went distinctly against slasher cliché when it gave leading lady Allyson Nelson a boyfriend but didn’t end up killing him off. But while Cameron Elam avoided a gruesome fate at the hands of Michael Myers, he did meet another swift end of sorts, in that he pretty much disappeared from the movie halfway through.
By and large, MCU fans don’t need any further convincing to check out Captain Marvel when it arrives in just ten weeks, but this new behind-the-scenes video that's playing in Cinemark theaters certainly won’t hurt matters, offering further glimpses of the interplanetary adventure to come between statements from lead actress Brie Larson and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.
