Now that we're past the halfway point when it comes to Marvel's currently unfolding major crossover event, Secret Empire, we fully expect Nick Spencer and company to kick things into high gear. And, for your own safety, it's recommended that you not take a drink any time the word "secret" is used by either us or the publisher from here on out.
While it may be quite some time before we see Jerome Valeska morph into a fully realized Joker, Gotham has not shied away from allowing some of the less law-abiding citizens to already realize their destinies as some of the more iconic supervillains around. To date, we've already seen Oswald Cobblepot, Edward Nygma and Victor Fries become the Penguin, Riddler and Mr. Freeze, respectively - and that's just naming a few.
Although we still have a few more months to go before Justice League storms cinemas, the film's main villain, Steppenwolf, seems to be enjoying being in the spotlight as of late. First, movie studios were given yet another lesson that they should reveal what characters are to look like onscreen via officially released images, as opposed to toylines continuing their time-honored tradition of letting the cat out bag, when some pictures of Darkseid's subordinate surfaced online.
By now, it's certainly been well established that production for the fourth season of The Flash is well underway. With that, we expect there to be new blood not only in front of the camera, but behind it as well.
Now that we know production for the sixth season of Arrow is underway, the floodgates have opened and we fully expect details to come flowing in on a regular basis. That said, lead actor Stephen Amell recently divulged a few juicy tidbits himself when speaking at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Nashville over the weekend, which may have very well seen one of the biggest public joinings of the cast made outside of San Diego Comic-Con.
If you're a superhero animation junkie just as we are, then you're likely aware that this is about the time when we learn the names of the next three DC Universe movies set to be released the following year. Usually, all are revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, but sometimes Blu-ray packaging lets the cat out of the bag early when it comes to one of them. As you can guess, such is the case with Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.
Admittedly, it's to be expected that while there'll most assuredly be some mutants making their big screen debut in X-Men: Dark Phoenix (Dazzler is said to be counted among that lot), more than a few familiar faces will be greeting them. I mean, how else would you expect to sell tickets to the next entry in the mainline series if there aren't a healthy amount of known characters coming back for more?
Considering that its DC TV brethren in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow both commenced filming for their upcoming seasons this week, it only makes sense that Arrow do the same. Though we may be three months away from showtime as it were, the post-production crew must be given ample time in order to do their thing - and there's also the possibility of some kind of teaser trailer dropping at San Diego Comic-Con in two weeks.
While DC has done a pretty good job of getting us excited for all the various tie-ins set to orbit their next major event, that doesn't mean we've taken our eyes off Dark Nights: Metal itself. Aside from having the appeal that comes with uniting the fan favorite creative team of writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo going for it, there's also the fact that they're building upon everything they established on their definitive Batman run, in addition to taking advantage of the veritable treasure trove that is the DC Universe as a whole.
