It’s certainly been a big week for Archie Comics, hasn’t it? In addition to inking a landmark deal with Warner Bros. TV that will allow them to bring even more of their iconic characters into the live action realm, the publisher has just made another huge deal, this time with Marvel.
There’s no denying that Marvel’s upcoming crossover event, Secret Empire, has sparked a veritable brushfire of conversation on message boards, social media and in comic shops alike. Simply put, when Captain America goes bad guy and the rest of the Marvel Universe is forced to set him straight, it’s going to get some attention.
From what we can tell, Marvel is certainly taking the upcoming Secret Empire crossover event seriously. In addition to a zero issue and a Free Comic Book Day offering being on the way, readers will soon have their chance to play catch up and see how the Marvel Universe got to this point.
After taking a break in observance of Valentine's Day, The Flash looks to come back strong next week as it continues to embrace its comic book heritage with the two-part "Gorilla City" event.
When it was first said that fan favorite DC superhero Black Lightning would be coming to television, many high fives likely occurred. But when word got out that the show would no longer be at Fox and instead join The CW's Arrowverse, it stands to reason that those same fans danced with joy.
In a most fortunate turn of events that will surely satisfy fans of the hit new series Riverdale, Archie Comics have reached a deal with Warner Bros. TV, assuring that more properties outside of its iconic teenage cast will receive adaptations beyond the printed page. For starters, this includes “America's Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions" Katy Keene, and even the superheroes that make up the company's mature Dark Circle imprint.
If anything can be said about Batman’s rogues gallery, it’s that it boasts the deepest and arguably most psychologically complex collection of villains in all of comics. One such baddie that’s enjoyed some time in the limelight following the success of 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises is that of everyone’s favorite militant to don a luchador mask, who will soon be granted a 12-issue limited series written and illustrated by his original creators in the form of Bane: Conquest.
Things are certainly picking up for Slade Wilson, as he will soon find himself as the lynchpin in DC’s crossover event this May, “The Lazarus Contract.” Set to span four books – Titans, Teen Titans, Deathstroke and a Teen Titans Annual – it will place Wally West directly in the crosshairs of the world’s deadliest assassin, who aims to resurrect the original Ravager, his son Grant.
Now that we have that business with the fake Joker behind us, Harley Quinn #14 marks the beginning of a new story arc. What was originally titled “Red Meat” has since been renamed “Nether Regions,” which, quite frankly, is a better fit for this series given its proud history of double entendres. But when you take into account that only the first few pages would have aligned with the “Red Meat” theme, it’s best DC went with the switch.
It's probably safe to say that 2017 will be a great time to be a fan of a certain wallcrawler. Not only is Tom Holland set to dazzle audiences this July in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but there's also the announcement that Marvel is rolling out yet another ongoing series headlined by one of its oldest and most popular characters in the form of Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man.
