If you've seen Avengers: Endgame, then you know how it gave Tony Stark and Steve Rogers some beautiful sendoffs. When it came to Thor, however, it became apparent that his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is far from over. And even though the Mouse House has other cash cows such as Black Panther and Captain Marvel to rely on these days, it certainly doesn't hurt to have one of the old guard hanging around.
When it comes to second weekend drop-offs, no movie is immune to such a thing - even the mighty Avengers: Endgame. At this point, it's just something we've come to expect.
If you're an avid reader of comic books, then there's a good chance you've read a media tie-in at some point - and no, I'm not talking about adaptations for existing movies. In recent years, we've seen TV shows like Smallville, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X-Files continue their sagas in the medium we love.
Now that we're at 2019's halfway point, I'd like to point out how most of this year's Marvel and DC-based movies are behind us. With the likes of Captain Marvel, Shazam!, Avengers: Endgame and Dark Phoenix already in the books, our attention now turns toward Spider-Man: Far From Home and my most anticipated theatrical release of the year, Joker. Well, there's also The Kitchen for you Vertigo aficionados, but that's a very different beast.
Even though the superhero team-up movie is nothing new at this point, we've yet to see two distinct groups face off in the live action realm. I'm sure that an Avengers vs. X-Men movie will happen within the next decade or so (fingers crossed), but let's not forget how Fox did consider X-Men vs. Fantastic Four not long ago.
Now that James Gunn has been secured as both writer and director for The Suicide Squad, it appears as though Warner Bros. are trying their best to lock him down for other DC-based projects. Believe it or not, our source is telling us that he's being eyed for a Justice League reboot.
By now, I’m sure you’re well aware of how X-Men: Dark Phoenix was an unfortunate box office bomb. Though I’m certain being panned by critics didn’t help matters, the delays and reshoots undoubtedly didn’t instill consumer confidence. Hey, when something has nearly a year of negative press preceding it, failure is virtually inevitable.
Though Nora West-Allen didn't always make the right decisions and often had to be bailed out by her father, the Flash, I really enjoyed having her around throughout season 5. Not only did Jessica Parker Kennedy give her a good personality, but her presence added something new to the Barry-Iris dynamic. I bet they didn't think they'd have an adult daughter this soon in their lives!
So far, it appears as though Avengers: Endgame has proven to be one of those rare movies where most folks will overlook a myriad of plot holes and still enjoy it. Suffice it to say, thinking too hard about this flick's time travel logic may cause your nose to bleed - especially anything involving Captain America - but, man, was it ever an unforgettable ride.
If anything, 2019 has turned out to be a great year for comic book movies. Already, audiences have been dazzled by the likes of Captain Marvel, Shazam! and Avengers: Endgame, with Spider-Man: Far From Home looking to impress in a matter of weeks. And before long, we'll journey into madness when Joker storms cinemas this fall.
