After several years of the project not budging, it is being reported that Warner Bros. is again attempting to get their Tarzan movie up and running. It also seems that they may possibly commission two separate scripts that would be written simultaneously. One script is said to be penned by Adam Cozad who recently wrote Arcangel, the Jack Ryan reboot of which Joseph Kosinski is attached. The studio is also, apparently, is talks with Craig Brewer for a different version.
Fresh off her brilliant take on the story of Red Riding Hood, director Catherine Hardwicke is moving onward to helm an adaptation of Martha O’Connor’s novel “The Bitch Posse,” which focuses on high school seniors Cherry, Amy and Rennie as friends from troubled homes who form a “dangerous alliance” that they call the Bitch Posse. There wouldn’t be a story, though, if there weren’t some trouble involved as something happens between the three that tears apart their friendship and haunts them into their adult years.
While promoting his latest film, Midnight in Paris, actor Michael Sheen shut down all of the recent rumors that he would be starring as Roger Collins in Tim Burton’s upcoming film adaptation of 60s gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows. With director Barry Levinson taking the helm after the departure of Nick Cassavetes, it seems as though Gotti: Three Generations is going full steam ahead by adding two new members to its cast. Already headed by John Travolta, Variety is reporting that his wife, Kelly Preston, and daughter, Ella Bleu, who will play none other than the wife and young daughter of John Gotti Sr, will be joining him in a cast that is rounded out by Joe Pesci and Lindsay Lohan.
Just days ago two newcomers, Ashton Moio and Kara Petersen, boarded the cast of Gary Ross’ The Hunger Games adaptation to fill the tribute roles for District Six. Now, according to the official Hunger Games Facebook page, four other relatively unknown actors have been named as tributes for Districts Seven and Eight.
It seems as though Fox’s upcoming Three Stooges film, helmed by the Farrelly Brothers, is really shaping up in terms of its cast. While the role of Moe Howard has yet to be filled (Chris Diamantopoulos is the frontrunner), Sean Hayes and Will Sasso are set to star as Larry Fine and Curly Howard, and just recently Larry David and Jane Lynch boarded the project to fill the roles of Sister Mary-Mengele and Mother Superior.
I am a huge fan of Ryan Gosling. The fact the he was not nominated for an Oscar this year for his incredible performance in Blue Valentine, which I personally thought far outshined Michelle Williams’, still shocks me. But it looks like he’ll be reteaming with Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance for the father-son crime drama, The Place Beyond the Pines.
With Stephen Frears at the helm, Rebecca Hall and Bruce Willis are set to star in the indie flick, Lay the Favorite, which is based upon the life of Beth Raymer, who began as a cocktail waitress in Las Vegas and went on to become a professional gambler. Upon falling in love though, Raymer began to revaluate her life and her chosen profession.
Variety now tells us that Vince Vaughn is in talks to join the film for an unspecified role after last being seen in Universal’s The Dilemma. Randall Emmett will produce via Emmett/Furla Films, along with Anthony Bregman, D.V. DeVincentis and Paul Trijbits. Peter Gethers will be executive producing.
Today it was announced that Steven Spielberg would be filming his next project, Lincoln, in Virginia this fall. It is based upon the best-selling book, “Team of Rivals” by historian Doris Kearns Goodwin with a script penned by Tony Kushner and focuses on the “political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.”
Making her directorial debut is the writer of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Lorene Scarfaria, with the independent comedy-drama, Seeking A Friend at the End of the World. The film already stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley as two neighbors who connect on a road trip against the looming extinction of the human race due to an asteroid.
