The 2008 canine smash, Marley And Me, was clearly in need of a sequel. Thankfully, NBC heard the cries of fans everywhere who demanded to know what happened to Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston's cookie cutter family once the damn dog bit it! There's no need to ponder anymore, as a put pilot order (meaning the network is obliged to broadcast that one episode) has been commissioned for the single camera doggy show.
After making a name for himself in comedy clubs with his wham-bam stand-up schtick, Chris Rock's move into film was a natural progression for the gifted funnyman. His fast-paced frenetic style has made his work on projects such as the Grown Ups franchise, zap and crackle despite their less than inspired subject matter. While he's definitely scored some high points during his time on the big screen (2 Days In Paris), he's in need of a boost; and his next effort, Top Five is the perfect vehicle to reignite his career.
Last night in Los Angeles, a select group gathered for a special anniversary screening of James Cameron's cyborg classic, The Terminator, to celebrate its 30th birthday. It's a little hard to believe the movie that kickstarted the time-travelling Skynet series is three decades old, especially as the sequels are still comin'. Since Cameron's opening instalment, we've seen a further three sequels, only one of which he directed (Terminator 2: Judgment Day.) Still, that's not stopped others from reusing the characters and stories, especially after Annapurna Films snapped up the rights and are developing a new trilogy of Terminator pics, starting with next year's Terminator Genisys.
The father of the modern zombie, George A. Romero, first introduced us to the shufflesome ways of the undead way back in 1968 with his lo-fi classic, Night Of The Living Dead. Shot on a measly budget, the original movie followed two siblings who are pursued by a flesh eater while visiting a cemetery. They seek refuge in a nearby farmhouse as the zombie invasion takes hold. It's a genre staple that has gone on to influence countless filmmakers, including Romero's own son, G. Cameron Romero, who is now pledging to craft a prequel, Origins.
If you weren't already over the moon about the casting line-up for Star Wars: Episode VII, then you might be excited to hear that Warwick Davis is set to return to a galaxy far, far away. The franchise stalwart has officially signed on to J.J. Abrams' anticipated first instalment of the new trilogy.
Davis will be recognisable to the Star Wars fan community as he appeared in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, The Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle For Endor as much-loved ewok, Wicket. That's not to say he'll be reprising that role for the new movie. Lest we forget, he also cropped up in the prequel trilogy. In Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, he took on two brief roles; one as Anakin's childhood friend Wald, and the other as arms dealer Weazel.
When Spring rolls around and the crocus are starting to poke through the dirt, no one gives a hoot because Game Of Thrones is back on the box. The annual hysteria surrounding HBO's highly-successful medieval fantasy series begins... well, I would say now, but it never really ends! (And let's keep it that way.)
Once Ridley Scott wraps up the final touches to his epic, Exodus: Gods And Kings, he'll be turning his attention to The Martian. It's to be expected, as that's his next slated project and one that's gathering steam at an alarming rate. However, if you were to ask any fan of the director which of his upcoming titles they're most looking forward to, you'll likely be presented with two options: Blade Runner 2 or Prometheus 2. The latter of which is still some ways off, but is never out of the news due to a massive amount of interest in the sci-fi sequel.
Universal has revealed the release dates for two of its upcoming Blumhouse Productions titles; Jem And The Holograms and Cybernatural.
The former will land in theatres on October 23rd, 2015 as a live-action reboot of the animated series. That joyful Saturday morning cartoon based on the Hasbro toy line, sprang to life in the 80s and its very existence has plagued this writer on practically a daily basis ever since.
Warner Bros. are on an announcement streak! Following yesterday's headline-grabbing extravaganza, during which the studio outlined their collaborative plans with DC Comics, it seems they're now deep in negotiations for another adaptation. This time, they're not turning to the pages of a comic or novel for inspiration, instead, they're tapping the video game market to bring a Minecraft live-action pic to the big screen.
At this time of year, practically every major theatrical release is discussed regarding its Oscar potential. It's a trend that guarantees plenty of anticipated titles hit multiplexes when fall arrives, and this year is no exception. We've already had a stream of solid contenders eager to nab a nomination and it looks like Angelina Jolie might be keen to add another statuette to her mantlepiece. Prepare thyself, as her upcoming WWII tale, Unbroken, has wowed us with its second trailer.
