Stranger Things unexpectedly blew everyone away when it debuted last week on Netflix. We dug it. Critics dug it. Stephen King dug it. No wonder the horror auteur supreme enjoyed the series; it pays homage to plenty of his works, along with several other iconic genre creators. While its brief eight-episode run wrapped up things (for the most part), there's always the question of more: will we be getting Stranger Things season 2?
The Russos have a knack for taking superb, well-loved comic book series' and transforming them into equally successful big screen adaptations. Jurassic World put Universal way ahead of every other studio last summer, trouncing previous domestic box office records and amassing a huge $1.7 billion worldwide gross. While its overwhelming success came as a surprise, the fact that a sequel was greenlit shortly thereafter did not. The wheels were set in motion for Jurassic World 2 one year ago, but it was only this January that executive producers Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow installed Juan Antonio Bayona at the helm.
You'd be hard pushed to find a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe without a bulging set of muscles below the surface of their tight lycra outfit. Besides the opening sequences of The First Avenger, that is. Chris Hemsworth's Norse god is the biggest gymrat of the lot, but he could fave some serious competition for his character's trilogy-closer Thor: Ragnarok.
A couple of months back we learned the name of the hero lined up by Shane Black to lead his sequel, The Predator. In case you missed it, it's the very rugged-sounding Quinn McKenna. Today we might have stumbled upon who will breathe life into that action hero monicker. No, sorry, it's not The Rock. It's - rather surprisingly - James Franco.
Entertainment Weekly's coverage of The Dark Tower is the gift that keeps on giving. There's been a lot to absorb, from those first official shots of Idris Elba decked out as Roland Deschain to word from director Nikolaj Arcel that the movie isn't quite the adaptation we were expecting. For fans of Stephen King's novel series, it's been a terrific week of news. And the outlet plans to go out with a bang, as EW has dropped a gallery of fresh images.
The continuing coverage of Sony's The Dark Tower adaptation in EW is rolling out a glut of interesting reveals. The first official look at Idris Elba as the cowboy knight Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as his adversary, the sinister Man In Black ate terrific teasers for what's to come. Now the film's director Nikolaj Arcel has dropped an even bigger morsel to chew over. It's not an adaptation - it's a sequel. Sort of. Here's what he told the outlet:
A new photo from the upcoming Power Rangers movie shows the gang's main foe singling one of them out for some special treatment. The picture, released by Entertainment Weekly, depicts the villainous Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) stroking her gnarly talons down the face of the Yellow Ranger, Trini. She doesn't look too happy about her predicament. But, as actress Becky Gomez went on to tell EW, that's because Repulsa believes she's susceptible.
Paramount plans to dominate the box office next summer with its latest 'bot outing Transformers: The Last Knight. Shooting is well underway on the sequel, which is supposedly director Michael Bay's final turn behind the lens, and so far, everything we know about the blockbuster has stemmed from his social media.
Anna Kendrick's screen summer has a matrimonial air about it. First out of the gate is Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, an R-rated affair that's pitched in the same league as Neighbors, and now we've got a look at 2017's Table 19. Its title isn't the most inspiring thing about it - it kinda sounds like a drippy rom-com - yet the trailer sets out to prove that this flick's got a lot going for it.
