The continuing coverage of Sony's The Dark Tower adaptation in EW is rolling out a glut of interesting reveals. The first official look at Idris Elba as the cowboy knight Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as his adversary, the sinister Man In Black ate terrific teasers for what's to come. Now the film's director Nikolaj Arcel has dropped an even bigger morsel to chew over. It's not an adaptation - it's a sequel. Sort of. Here's what he told the outlet:
A new photo from the upcoming Power Rangers movie shows the gang's main foe singling one of them out for some special treatment. The picture, released by Entertainment Weekly, depicts the villainous Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) stroking her gnarly talons down the face of the Yellow Ranger, Trini. She doesn't look too happy about her predicament. But, as actress Becky Gomez went on to tell EW, that's because Repulsa believes she's susceptible.
Paramount plans to dominate the box office next summer with its latest 'bot outing Transformers: The Last Knight. Shooting is well underway on the sequel, which is supposedly director Michael Bay's final turn behind the lens, and so far, everything we know about the blockbuster has stemmed from his social media.
Anna Kendrick's screen summer has a matrimonial air about it. First out of the gate is Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, an R-rated affair that's pitched in the same league as Neighbors, and now we've got a look at 2017's Table 19. Its title isn't the most inspiring thing about it - it kinda sounds like a drippy rom-com - yet the trailer sets out to prove that this flick's got a lot going for it.
AMC's zombie serial is firming up its human component. Now that season six of The Walking Dead is behind us, and season seven is currently shooting, the network is locking down its main cast roster. It's been announced that four of the show's recurring stars will return as series regulars. One of those? Negan.
Does the world really need to delve back into the world of Saw? The once-brilliant horror franchise quickly fell victim to its own hype, with each successive movie becoming a weak copy of everything that came before. Now, the powers that be have decided that The Final Chapter was merely a suggestive title, as we're getting another sequel: Saw: Legacy.
With over a year to go until Warner Bros. unites its top-tier team of superheroes in Justice League, we might have a wait on our hands until the studio unleashes the first snippet of footage. True, we've already seen the leading trio in action with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman sharing the screen in this year's Dawn of Justice. But seeing them assemble alongside The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg is another thing entirely.
Following their creepy-as-hell Catfish mockumentary, directing duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman turned to the horror genre proper with the Paranormal Activity franchise. The pair delivered the third and fourth installments of the now-completed series - the third is in my opinion the scariest of the lot - and clearly they got a taste for the little genre that could. And so, for their next outing they're re-teaming with Blumhouse chief Jason Blum to make the chills creep farther up our spines in Virus.
In this age of comic book movie blockbusterism, superheroes and supervillains are the go-to question during press interviews. If you could play any character from any comic, who might it be? is a commonly-asked one, that breaks up the monotony of mandatory Q&A topics. The responses are a lot of fun to read; from actors who've never picked up a comic in their life, to those who are devout readers.
Starz' rip-roaring Evil Dead TV spinoff hit screens last year, surprising both die-hard fans and newbies alike with its careful balance of humor and gore. Come on, this is Ash Vs. Evil Dead - it's in the title! A sequel series revisiting the beloved one-armed Deadite killer was never going to be without the requisite buckets of blood. Partly because of its origins and partly because franchise creator Sam Raimi is involved in production.
