Keanu Reeves' current career reboot, kickstarted by a return-to-form turn in John Wick, looks set to continue if this week's news is any indication. Yesterday he signed up to co-star in Nicolas Winding Refn's female-led horror, The Neon Demon, he's already completed work on Eli Roth's Knock Knock, and now, he's hitting the streets of New York for his next effort, Daughter Of God.
Universal has announced plans for a sequel to last year's collegiate comedy, Neighbors, that starred Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as newlyweds whose move to a new abode is disrupted by the arrival of a noisy fraternity house next door. It's unsurprising news, given that the first outing - made on a paltry budget of $18 million - netted a colossal $268 million worldwide. Per THR, Neighbors 2 will reunite Rogen, Byrne, frat leader Zac Efron and director Nicholas Stoller for this second outing.
Prior to accepting the Visionary Award at last night's Visual Effects Society Awards, J.J. Abrams took a moment to discuss one particular aspect of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It has to be said; Abrams listens to his audience. During an interview with the folks over at Collider, the filmmaker offered up his thoughts on the varied responses he's received since the film's teaser bowed in December.
Australian director Baz Luhrmann, who changed modern musical cinema with his 2001 hit Moulin Rouge, is making the leap to the small screen for his next project. Alongside fellow visionary David Fincher, who has seen massive success with House Of Cards, Luhrmann's musical TV series The Get Down will debut exclusively on Netflix next year.
Trailers. They're like buses. You wait for ages for one and then suddenly two arrive at once. This morning saw the first trailer for the Poltergeist remake hit the web and immediately stir up a ton of intrigue surrounding the film. Who is Jared Harris playing, exactly? What's really going on with the ghosts? And will that track that one of the ghosts whips up on the kiddy keyboard be available on iTunes?
The gullible nature and boundless optimism of one Japanese woman is explored in the upcoming Zellner Brothers release, Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter. The flick drew positive reviews after its debut at last year's Sundance Film Festival yet still took a while to land a U.S. distributor. Thankfully, the wildly imaginative caper - a result of its leading lady - is on its way to theaters shortly, and ahead of its release, the first full-length trailer has arrived. And it's simply wonderful.
It's been a while since Michael Douglas turned in a performance to rival that of his arguably greatest character, Wall Street's Gordon Gekko. In the last decade, the once-solid actor has steered clear of sharp, probing movies and invested in more palatable fare such as And So It Goes and Last Vegas. That period of safe moves appears to over - for a brief time, anyway - judging by this first trailer for his next effort, Beyond The Reach.
Director Matt Shakman's (TV's The Good Wife and Fargo) upcoming small-town thriller possesses all of the necessary qualities to gather advance attention. It's got a quirky indie crime premise, a solid director at the helm, and a starry cast. Does this mean that Cut Bank will deliver the goods? With the film's release date looming closer, a new trailer has landed (via Yahoo! Movies) that muddies the moral waters of its story...
Nicolas Winding Refn's next venture, The Neon Demon, is set to explore a new cinematic terrain for the esoteric director. Described by the helmer as a "horror film about vicious beauty", there's certainly plenty of beautiful faces joining his starry cast. Variety reports that John Wick lead Keanu Reeves, Mad Men star Christina Hendricks, The Hunger Games' Jena Malone and Dark Shadows' Bella Heathcote will be subjecting themselves to Refn's will for his upcoming L.A.-based tale.
The first image from Stephen King adaptation, Cell, has arrived alongside news that Clarius Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film. Helmed by Paranormal Activity 2 director Tod Williams, the movie stars John Cusack as a man desperate to track down his family after a bizarre Twilight Zone-inspired incident hits the country.
