At long last, it appears that Terry Gilliam's Don Quixote adaptation is finally happening. Today, Variety confirmed that rising star Jack O'Connell, whose terrific performances in Starred Up and '71 have earned him awards buzz that should reach a fever pitch when he stars in the Angelina Jolie-directed Unbroken this December, will star as a young commercials director who gets wrapped up in a retelling of Miguel Cervantes' classic story.
Spring Breakers provocateur Harmony Korine's next project already had our curiosity, but now, it has our attention. For the first time, the director will team with an Oscar winner. Actually, make that two Oscar winners, as we now have word that Jamie Foxx will star in his upcoming ensemble gangster drama The Trap alongside Benicio del Toro.
Politics are everywhere, both off-screen with the midterm elections and on-screen with such red-hot series as Netflix's House of Cards and FX's Tyrant. Now, Showtime is getting in on the action by putting its own political drama, titled Anthem, into development. Out of the two dueling White House takeover pics that vied for box office dominance in 2013, it's safe to say that Olympus Has Fallen emerged victorious against White House Down (though there are some, myself included, who feel that the latter film was far superior). While White House Down disappointed at the box office, Olympus Has Fallen made more on a smaller budget and certainly did well enough to warrant a sequel, which kicked off production in London today.
Though his multi-picture deal with Warner Bros., which has him suiting up to play the Man of Steel himself in at least 2016's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League, should keep him very busy for the foreseeable future, British thesp Henry Cavill is finding time to step into another action hero role for the upcoming Stratton.
After horrifying and enthralling us in equal measure with their debut feature Inside, French filmmakers Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury are now set to bring their unique sensibilities to a more mainstream project - Leatherface, a prequel to Tobe Hooper's 1974 slasher classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre that will chart the origins of the titular killer.
20th Century Fox's upcoming dystopian sequel Maze Runner: Scorch Trials just gained two talented stars, with word that Kill the Messenger actor Barry Pepper and The Conjuring actress Lili Taylor have joined the production in supporting roles.
After an excellent and completely insane season-long detour in the form of Archer Vice, the ISIS gang returns to the office in the upcoming sixth season of the animated FX spy comedy Archer, though they will no longer be working for an organization called ISIS. And while the season premiere isn't until January, the first teaser for season six has landed online, reminding us all that Ram Jam used to be a thing.
