Earlier today, we reported that Andy Serkis might be playing a motion-capture character in Star Wars: Episode VII. Embedded in the actor's comments about his role in that wildly anticipated blockbuster was another interesting tidbit about another much buzzed-about project.
Few comediennes currently have as much mass appeal and cultural influence as Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock alum Tina Fey, who has successfully made the jump to the big screen with films like Admission and Muppets Most Wanted. Every big studio out there wants to work with her in some way - Warner Bros. recruited her for this fall's This Is Where I Leave You, and Universal has booked her and gal pal Amy Poehler for next year's The Nest. Now Disney wants in and is apparently developing something currently known as Untitled Witch Project with Fey.
One of the movies I'm convinced will stand the best chance of sweeping the 2015 Oscars is this fall's Foxcatcher. Directed by talented Moneyball helmer Bennett Miller, the drama tells the true story of Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo), examining how their relationship with millionaire John du Pont (Steve Carell) eventually turned deadly. It looks like a riveting, heart-rending story with stunning performances from Tatum and Carell, and I'm convinced that the Academy is going to favor it this fall.
After both starred in the first two Hunger Games installments but never got to really interact on screen, Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth will be teaming up again to star in a revenge Western titled By Way of Helena for Wish You Were Here helmer Kieran Darcy-Smith.
Marvel's upcoming superhero tentpole Ant-Man, which Yes Man director Peyton Reed has stepped in to helm following the controversial exit of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World filmmaker Edgar Wright, just gained David Dastmalchian in an unspecified role.
The first big-budget Russian blockbuster, WWII epic Stalingrad, was an absolutely stunning visual experience, and when it became the highest-grossing film in Russian cinematic history, it seemed pretty clear that we hadn't heard the last of its director, Fedor Bondarchuk. Now, it appears that Warner Bros. has recruited the helmer to direct its big-budget Greek epic Odysseus, which aims to turn the classic tale transcribed in Homer's The Odyssey into an action-packed spectacle.
Next month, Netflix will unveil the fourth and final season of The Killing, a gritty police drama which it rescued from AMC in order to give fans closure about the fates of Seattle detectives Linden (Mireille Enos) and Holder (Joel Kinnaman). The first trailer for that six-episode final season has arrived today - and the results are quite surprising.
Recently, Martin Freeman got fans of the BBC series Sherlock in a tizzy by teasing that a Christmas special might be in the works and is planned for December of 2015. Now, we've learned something official about the future of the massively popular modern-day mystery drama.
Though Breaking Bad fans who have been desperately in need of a fix since that incredible series went off the air last year are going to have to wait until 2015 to get their first dose of AMC's spinoff Better Call Saul, news about the upcoming series suggests it may be well worth the wait.
It's a truly amazing time to be a Community fan. After NBC finally swung the axe on the brilliant cult comedy after five low-rated seasons, it appeared that the underdog fan favorite might actually be on its last legs (and in a cruel twist of fate, only one season away from the six seasons fans had long lobbied for). As the clock ticked down to zero on the casts' deals, with Netflix stepping away and talks with Hulu falling through, the situation seemed increasingly dire.
