Director/writer Darren Lynn Bousman has given us some of the worst films of the last few years (Saw II, III, and IV as well as Repo! The Genetic Opera). Now he returns with his latest mess, another attempt at a horror film that remains just that, an attempt. As per usual, his film provides a completely absurd plot that fits right along with the others, though surprisingly, this time he has managed to leave out the gratuitous amounts of blood he’s normally inclined to use.
Variety is reporting that actor Clive Owen has signed on to star in the upcoming actioner Recall. The film tells the story of “an NSA agent trying to piece together the events of a botched hostage rescue operation. As the agent begins to recall events and unearth the truth, he finds he can trust neither his fellow soldiers nor his own mind.”

Lately we've been hearing a lot of casting news about the upcoming adaptation of Akira. Garrett Hedlund has been in talks to play the lead role of Kaneda while Helena Bonham Carter and Gary Oldman have been sought for the roles of Lady Miyako and The Colonel. Now The Film Stage is reporting that Keira Knightley, Ezra Miller, and Alden Ehrenreich are also being considered for parts in the film.
At first, it seems like a rather strange choice for Wood, who typically sticks to more kid-friendly or dramatic projects like Lord of the Rings, Happy Feet, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but you may recall that he also played the small role of a psychotic cannibal killer in the great adaptation of Frank Miller’s Sin City. I for one have never seen the original Maniac, but I'm always up for seeing an actor try something that's outside of their normal comfort zone.
/Film is reporting that director J.J. Abrams wants Benicio Del Toro to play the villain in the upcoming sequel to his Star Trek reboot. This being an Abrams project, very little is known about it at this point other than that the screenplay is being written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof and that everyone who made it through the first film is scheduled to return.
Just a couple of weeks ago, we reported that actor Gary Oldman was offered the role of the Colonel in the upcoming adaptation of Akira. Now it's being reported that Oldman is also being sought for the role of Merlin in another Warner Bros. project, Arthur and Lancelot.

If ever a project was in need of help it's the upcoming adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a novel combining Jane Austen's classic tale with flesh eaters. This weekend, Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) became the third director to depart from the film.
