Should you find yourself wondering this fine morning if IT: Chapter Two is going to be scarier than its predecessor, just ask those who were in attendance at the film’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation. Evidently, during the ScareDiego event last night - which helped kick-off SDCC yesterday - the first footage from the pic was presented for us surface dwellers to see, and apparently, it did not disappoint.
If you recall, last month, the web caught wind of Nem: The Infinity Watcher, a Marvel superfan who had bafflingly seen Avengers: Infinity War on 43 occasions. Keep in mind, though; this was way back in June. Since then, that number has ballooned. As of July 17th, Nem: The Infinity Watcher, AKA Tony Mitchell, has officially seen Infinity War…are you ready for this? 101 times!
Quentin Tarantino isn’t one to shy away from controversy, in fact, the filmmaker practically encircles dissension in a loving embrace. I mean, take a look at the two-time Academy Award winner’s filmography, and it should become abundantly clear, this man tackles contentious subject matter tendentiously, which is why he’s such an essential and iconic storyteller. However, even Tarantino would have to admit, the release date of his latest project, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is a tad insensitive. Thankfully, then, Sony Pictures Releasing has changed it.
Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t already shot Zombieland 2, despite a report to the contrary last month. However, the idea of a follow-up to the moderately successful post-apocalyptic comedy - which had been intermittently convulsing this year - did manifest into something tangible last week when The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that said sequel would be moving forward, with the original cast, no less.
Believe you me, with San Diego Comic-Con set to kick-off Thursday; we can expect plenty of comic book-related minutia to be unveiled this week. After all, in the lead-up to SDCC, we’ve already seen Aquaman make a big splash with an epic new poster, and Entertainment Weekly provide the exclusive first look at Shazam!. I mean, what else would you expect from the outset of the “largest convention of its kind in the world?” Well, according to the titular star of the latter, Zachery Levi, “more firsts are on their wayyyyyyyyyy.”
What with the first Aquaman trailer due to arrive this Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con - I mean, James Wan did confirm as much - and having already made a big splash this week on account of an epic new poster, July is shaping up to be the busiest month thus far for Jason Momoa’s titular Human-Atlantean Hybrid, and news out of the sunken kingdom is that Arthur Curry’s schedule just got a lot more hectic.
Despite being shuffled into arguably the most hazardous window of release ever - between Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story – the David Leitch-directed, R-rated farce, otherwise known as Deadpool 2, became the third Marvel movie to gross more than $300 million stateside this year, and subsequently went on to eclipse $700 million worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time. Not too shabby for the foul-mouthed mercenary, whose very existence once hinged on the accidental leakage of test footage, eh?
Hereditary, the latest modern day horror masterstroke from A24 - who also brought us The Witch and It Comes at Night - will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD on September 4th.
Wade Wilson has never been one to shy away from breaking the fourth wall. Whether it’s an inane pop culture reference or a good-hearted jab at his Marvel kin, Deadpool doesn’t play favourites. And fittingly, with the proposed acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company still very much a possibility, the Merc with a Mouth has taken aim, albeit unofficially, at the family-friendly multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate.
Naturally, and despite the fact that Warner Bros. only greenlit the untitled Joker origin film earlier this week, the DC fandom has already been overcome with hysteria. And with a trio of Academy Award calibre talent on board in the form of producer Martin Scorsese, star Joaquin Phoenix and writer Scott Silver, why wouldn’t they be?
