Incredibly, we're nearly a decade removed from the initial release of Christopher Nolan’s thrilling crime saga The Dark Knight, and we’re still uncovering minutia that's altering the way in which we venerate the immortal superhero feature.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Slither director James Gunn confirmed via Twitter yesterday that he'll indeed be making an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this year.
Last month, it appeared that DCEU founding father Zack Snyder might’ve divulged the plot of Aquaman - well, at least partially - nearly a year and a half ago while promoting, Justice League. If you recall, an old poster from the much-maligned superhero feature showcased Jason Momoa’s titular Human-Atlantean Hybrid accompanied by text overlay which read “Unite The Seven.”
With a trio of Academy Award calibre talent on board in the form of producer Martin Scorsese, star Joaquin Phoenix and writer Scott Silver, the untitled Joker origin film gestating over at Warner Bros. is perhaps the most promising superhero-based project currently in production. Unfortunately, though, the Todd Phillips-helmed picture has reportedly missed out on adding another Oscar winner.
Given that the theatrical run of Avengers: Infinity War is drawing to close - after all, it’ll be hitting home video in roughly a month (August 14th) from now, and your preferred digital platform in a little over two weeks' time (July 31st) - I suppose now’s as good a time as any to let you know that The Avengers and Age of Ultron will be accompanying the $2 billion-plus ticket booth titan to 4K Ultra HD.
Having already seen a release date fall by the wayside, Warner Bros. announced earlier this year - much to fan vexation, mind you - that Godzilla: King of the Monsters had been pushed back another couple of months, this time to May 31st, 2019. After all, we’ve been through this song and dance before, and the outcome is almost never positive.
Avengers: Infinity War may be the talk of the town, but when it came down to hilarity this year, your friendly neighbourhood mercenary Deadpool was the bee’s knees. And what with the proposed acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company currently mired in an utmost precarious state, who knows, we might even see Wade Wilson drag his trademark irreverence kicking and screaming into the MCU? But that’s a discussion for another time.
While the first Aquaman trailer will be made available for public consumption - following an appearance at the “largest convention of its kind in the world,” of course - and footage from Patty Jenkins’ hotly-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 expected to follow suit, another cog in the immediate future of the DCEU was dealt a moderately devastating blow.
There isn’t much the MCU didn’t accomplish in 2018, what with Avengers: Infinity War being only the fourth motion picture ever to conquer the elusive $2 billion plateau and Black Panther becoming the first African-American feature to earn more than $1 billion. Not to mention, the highest grossing film franchise of all-time also spent a remarkable twenty weeks inside the ticket booth top ten - which, sadly, came to an end just before Ant-Man and the Wasp could make it into theaters.
What with director James Wan confirming via Twitter the first Aquaman trailer will finally see the light of day at the "largest convention of its kind in the world,” and footage from Wonder Woman 1984 expected to make an appearance, it honestly does look to be DC’s year at the convention, finally. And I’m happy to report; the pot got even sweeter today.
