Following the release of Suicide Squad last August, it quickly became apparent that a lot of scenes were left on the cutting room floor. That can be blamed on the fact that reshoots took place to drastically alter the tone of Task Force X's big screen debut, but there was one moment in particular which fans were really confused not to see in the final (or extended) cut.
The demand for a Black Widow movie from fans has been clear for years now, and Marvel Studios is finally beginning to take notice. However, before committing to anything, it appears as if they're waiting to see how female-led superhero flicks like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel perform. That makes perfect sense, and in a recent interview, Scarlett Johansson noted that we won't be getting an update on a standalone feature for the hero until after Avengers: Infinity War.
After making his debut in Doctor Strange last year, Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme looks set to play a big role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. For starters, he'll show up in Thor: Ragnarok in November, while he's also going to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and its currently untitled sequel further down the road.
In the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Iron Man could be seen sporting the same armour he wore in last year's Captain America: Civil War. Whether that was a placeholder or just something specifically chosen for those scenes is unclear, but an action figure has since revealed that Tony Stark will also sport a brand new suit which bears a striking resemblance to the Ultimate line of Marvel comic books.
Fox is awfully busy with their X-Men franchise these days. With Deadpool 2 simmering away in pre-production, New Mutants and X-Men: Supernova getting ready to shoot in a few months and Logan hitting theaters this weekend, it's a good time to be a fan of the iconic superheroes. But it's not only the big screen where we'll be able to see our favorite mutants, as we've also got Legion on FX now and a still unnamed action-adventure show coming to us from Matt Nix.
Despite the fact that Suicide Squad was ultimately considered a letdown by most, it's hard to lay the fault entirely on David Ayer's doorstep. The film was the victim of a substantial amount of studio meddling and though the direction wasn't perfect, Ayer was far from the biggest problem with Task Force X's first outing on the big screen. As such, we're definitely excited to see what he's cooked up with the upcoming spinoff, Gotham City Sirens.
Imaginative, beautiful, laugh out loud funny and bold, The LEGO Movie was one of the biggest cinematic surprises of the last several years, taking a concept that could have easily turned out to be nothing more than a shameless cash grab and turning it into a heartfelt, enjoyable and charming outing that's now spawned a whole franchise. With The LEGO Batman Movie having recently released to excellent reviews, and The LEGO Ninjango Movie coming down the pipeline, it doesn't look like those colorful building blocks will be going anywhere any time soon, and that's perfectly alright with us.
When it comes to original films, Netflix has really been stepping up their game lately, recently making a huge move to acquire Martin Scorsese's next effort, The Irishman. That's still quite aways away, however, but there's still a lot to look forward to in the near future, like David Ayer's Bright.
We always knew Avengers: Infinity War was going to be a big film, but at this point, it's starting to look like it may be too big for its own good. As excited as we are to see all these characters come together and interact with one another, ultimately putting their differences aside to team up and defeat big bad Thanos, it begs the question: will it be too much?
May 5th is quickly approaching and in just a few more months, we'll get to embark on another intergalactic adventure with our favorite bunch of A-Holes. Of course, we're referring to James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which will be with us shortly and is really starting to kick its promotional campaign into high gear now. Not that it needs to, as everyone and their grandmother will be checking this one out regardless, but we're happy about it nonetheless.
