With Before Midnight about to hit theaters (check out our review), it is unsurprising that Richard Linklater is once more looking to the future and that future appears to include a sequel (of sorts) to his most iconic of films, Dazed and Confused.
We’re all very sad that Jon Stewart is taking a hiatus from The Daily Show. But we’re also all very excited that he will be making his directorial debut during that time! So, you win some and you lose some. Here’s some more winning, though: Stewart has cast Gael Garcia Bernal as the lead in his upcoming film, which is titled Rosewater.
Are you Marvel-ed out yet? I’m beginning to get there. With Marvel’s so-called ‘Phase Two’ slate coming up, everyone just can’t get enough of those casting and character rumors. Nothing as been as rumor-tastic as Guardians Of The Galaxy, which seems to greatly excite comic book fans and greatly confuse the rest of us. Now we have one more rumor to add to the growing pile, this one concerning the central villain of the film.

It has been a long time since we have had a good, serious racing movie – and who would have thought that director Ron Howard, of all people, would bring it to us? But with the third trailer for Howard’s racing drama Rush, hopes are pretty high.
I enjoy surrealism. I also enjoy the more contemporary tendency in European films to take a seemingly normal premise and then ever-so-slowly turn it stranger and stranger. It’s very much in keeping with what filmmakers like Luis Bunuel did so well, and the reason why his films remain so fascinating. With the release of the teaser trailer for the Dutch film Borgman, directed by Alex van Warmerdam, I have high hopes for a continuation of this trend.
If all you know about Eva (Evita) Peron is that she asked Argentina not to cry for her, be prepared to be schooled. Argentine filmmaker Pablo Aguero is planning a film about the aftermath of Eva Peron’s death, and rumor has it he’s got some pretty big stars to join it. Both Gael Garcia Bernal and Mia Maestro (Twilight) have reportedly signed on for the as-yet-untitled film

Anyways, if you’ve forgotten who Francis Ford Coppola is (other than the father of Sofia Coppola), he’s that guy that directed a few small movies under the banner of The Godfather? Yeah? OK, so we’re all on the same page. Well, he’s planning on directing another saga about an Italian-American family that will not involve Al Pacino killing people in Italian restaurants.
No one can ever accuse Jason Statham of phoning it in. He may not make the best films in the world, but the guy has to stay in crazy good shape. With the announcement from Cannes that three more films in Luc Besson’s Transporter series are in the works, there’s a high likelihood that Statham will remain in good shape for several years to come.
The Cornetto trilogy is coming to a close. We knew that it had to happen sooner or later, but … I did not know I would feel this emotional. I mean, we’ve been through so much with Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Zombies, murderous townsfolk, explosions, ice cream. And now, because it really cannot end any other way: the world is quite literally coming to a close with the first trailer for the final installment: The World’s End.
Ben Wheatley’s latest directorial effort, A Field In England keeps popping up on my radar because it seems so gloriously weird that I cannot wait to see if it holds up to the hype. With a new trailer and poster recently hitting the ground, my excitement for this movie has significantly increased.
